To add to my reasons on the last page for keeping Lee one behind Warne, they may not want Lee coming in to play the longer knock as a lower order batsman as being a quick bowler who puts everything into his bowling, they perhaps feel that they need him to conserve as much of his energy as possible for bowling. Afterall, if he bats for a couple of hours, (not in this case obviously) then they're all out, he will have to go and 20 minutes later be steaming in to open the bowling.

Not doubting that Lee is almost definately the superior batsman to Warne these days, but it does make some sense to get Warne out the way, either with a quickfire knock or not, and then know you have both Lee and Gillespie who can both in their different ways hold up an end. If Lee gets out however, knowing you have someone that could be very hit or miss, followed by Australias own "The Wall" :p could lead to a quick collapse.

Pathan has done it a few times already, Flintoff sometimes does it, Cairns, Oram also have done it before. Lee is fit enough to handle the extra batting.

I staked a small amount of vcash on Bangladesh. :p Looks like they have tried their best. Too bad if they lose, but they've done really well to push the Aussies so hard.

Well, there's obviously some theory behind it, unless Ponting's just too scared to demote Warne, as he may stop getting captaincy tips :p
But plenty of quick, strike bowlers in the past have developed with the bat and have taken it upon themselves to manage both loads, and from what we can see, Lee wouldn't be a person to stand back at an opportunity like that, he's mentally and physically very strong, and has got an adaptable character. (Once again, from what we see...)

Lol @ the captaincy tips bit .. yeah i don't think they putting him behind Warne to save him for his fast bowling either

Just to add to that, fast bowling is a tough job, but equally tough is wicket-keeping and we've seen quite a few wicket-keepers who've been successful openers or 1 down bats as well.

Ponting isn't doing that, Warne was the better batter of the two. Infact he has been rated for his batting previously when he use to be sent up the order in ODI to do some pinch hitting. Sadly he never fully developed. Now it's time to develop Lee more.

I'm just playing devil's advocate, trying to get into the mindset of the Aussie think-tank ;) I must admit it's pretty scary in there, a mass of strange ideas floating about like bowling first when you win the toss on a batting belter with your strike bowler injured... dropping and then recalling almost your entire squad... and believing that Mick Lewis is international class

Another reason.. although said firmly with tongue in cheek, is that the Aussies are desperate to copy Englands winning Ashes formula, which requires a spinner who can hold a bat at 8 :p

Players are back on..this is it guys !

Except that Warne's got 1000's of runs more and 100's of wickets more than Mr.Giles

Lol thats our selectors and Ponting for you. Hopefully with our new Chairman of selectors we start getting things right.
As for Ponting it's about time we demote him from captain and let him focus on his batting.

1st ball goes for 4, go you good thing!

He may have more runs with the bat.. but Giles averages 4 more in test cricket, 4 more in odi cricket, 6 more in first class cricket, and 10 more in List A games...

He's only scored more because he's played a lot more games ;)

Err.. on the wicket front...... err no comment :p

Good batting by Ponting, hes taking most of the strike and leaving Dizzy to watch from the other end. Thus only way Bangladesh can win is to get Ponting out.

6 runs to get surely we can't lose it from here.

I bet Dizzys devastated :D

Scores level. 1 run to win.

Thank god Australia won. Jeez!!! They sure wer ein huge trouble those first 2 days.

Bangladesh will be shattered. Poor guys.

Ponting got hit!!!

Come on Dizzy, hit that winning run ;)

Nah Dizzy isn't like McGrath. He doesn't really consider himself a great batter like McGrath :) Hes just happy to be there for the other guy :)

Dizzys very much like Hoggard. Both bowl a nice swinging delivery, both have a solid foward defence and can bat for hours without actually entering double figures. Both play a bouncer with something resembling a foward defence.

And both represent the stereotypical view of their countrymen :p

Game over. What a lucky escpae that was. They will need to look at what went wrong closely and fix that quickly.

They were let down by their middle order batting. Clarke and Martyn seem to be the problem.
