I think everyone is getting too confident about Gillespie. Just becuase he took 5 wickets againt Bangladesh it doesn't mean he won't get smashed around by England again in the Ashes. We'll have to see how he does against higher ranked teams.

Your right. But considering hes bowling the ball in the right areas and managing to get wickets, its a good sign. He was also fantasticly economical, there was hardly ever any four balls dished up. When Lee, Warne and Clark were getting pounded early, he was looking good. Its good to see him back in the team and performing well. They can't drop him after that performance. They were top order batsmen he dismissed not tailenders. The main reason for my rave is because had he had a bad game, we may of never seen him play again internationally.

And you can't talk down Bangladesh. They were tough opponants this time around.

I was watching cricinfo and a lot of his deliverys were "excellent delivery" or "good line and length" or "beat the outside edge". Thats going to trouble any side.

My sig is made by me. its terrible because its just three pictures joined. None of that fancy photoshop work. :(

Well if we are talking about Gillespie, ihe did have a very poor patch for a few months, but i've never counted him out,and i don't think the selectors did either.Hopefully he can retain his place.

Which of the other pace bowlers took wickets and troubled the batsmen consistenty? He did very well on a flat wicket which gave him no assistance where Lee and Clark stuggled and hardly troubled the batsmen. We will have to see how ge goes in the next test.

It's hard to know whether or not hes back. Hes been awesome lately though, showing the exact form we saw from him during the Pura cup. I'm sure he has learnt from the Ashes now.
And it always good to have his "rock" like batting back in our team.

Loved seeing the young Bangladeshis showing off their talents, and while I was very worried for a while in that Test, it's pretty clear that this Test has been good for world cricket. If the bottom team can challenge the top team as well as Bangladesh did, then Test cricket isn't in as bad shape as some have said.

I agree, Both with batting and bowling. I was amazed at how he got out in the first innings, He actually played a shot!

Maybe he should stick to defense :)

Lol I actually was able to see his shot that he got out with. What on earth was that Mr Dizzy! I know he isn't the best against spinners but wow that shot hmmmm. It didn't look pretty at all.

lol I also found myself questioning the choice of shot.

He did make a vital 26 runs though and held up one end while Gilly smashed it around at the other.

Thats what he does best, he does have a few good shots but that one he got out to should never be played again!
It's really good knowing hes there at 9 especially with our batting being so fragile.

So what do you think our team will be for the next test?
Jaques in for Clarke, Cullen for Warne, Johnson for Lee?

Lee is probably going to bowl till the end of the ODI series. They always see him as a strike bowler and don't really see whats best for him!

No chance of Clarke being dropped and Johnson should never set foot on a Test field, but if Lee and Warne are rested Cullen and Bracken would be my bets

Well, with Warne, a rest is likely because he has a Hants commitment and he has better things to do in the next 6 months than nurse an injured shoulder. Particularly at his age and with his importance to the team, proper management of minor injuries is a necessity.

Lee on the other hand, won't be playing again till October, so a rest will have to be weighed against his value to the team. Obviously, if he bowls like he did at Dhaka, his only value to the team is with the bat, in which case, Bracken is an obvious replacement.

Another potential change is if they switch back to 7-4 for Chittagong, it's likely we'd see Jaques brought in at the top of the order.

There excuse for almost losing this match and being totally outplayed early is the gruelling schedule and player burnout.

If that were true shouldnt they perform worse as the match wears on.
Really they just thought they were hot **** and could walk up and win with little effort and batsmen an bowlers didnt adjust there game for pitch conditions.

So if players are tired surely they have to rest some(bet they dont) so heres my team for test 2 and on the right my guess for actual team.

Hayden
Jaques
Ponting
Martyn
Hussey
Clarke
Gilchrist
Gillespie
Johnson Lee (bat above gissepie)
Macgill
Cullen Clark (bat above magilla)

Might aswell play Johnson and see what he has to offer because apparently our quickies bowled crap coz there so tired.

You wouldn't expect any team to get off a plane and win a Test in a foreign country a couple of days later, except because it's Bangladesh, we have to have a special set of rules that allows magic to replace common sense. Never mind that it usually requires weeks of preparation for a "normal" team. I mean, honestly, "they thought they were hot s**t," but how are they meant to adjust from South African to Bangladesh conditions without getting any more practice than a couple of net sessions?

Lee was noticeably lacking in the VB series and the South African ODI series, where a great number of people posed about his fatigue levels. He bowled well at times in the Test series, but considering the assistance which pace bowlers were afforded by the pitches, this is not surprising.

If the selectors are seriously concerned about bowler fatigue, the side will stay a 6-5. Particularly after the first Test, though you may say 400 is a big score to concede against a mere minnow, but if it were 4 bowlers, it would have been a nightmare. Warne off the field injured and one of the two heroes, MacGill and Gillespie, wouldn't even have been playing.

Anyone expecting Johnson to play will be in the same group of people who complain about how we can't win games with crappy second string bowlers.
