Three Test centuries in a row from Ravi Bopara did not impress Shane Warne, who doesn't think the allrounder is good enough for the international arena. Bopara starred against West Indies in his previous three matches, including two hundreds at No. 3, but Warne doubts his temperament.

"Bopara is a good first-class cricketer, but he is not an international cricketer,'' Warne told the Daily Mirror. "I think he's got all the talent in the world, but I just don't think he's got the temperament.

"He can be put off his game too easily and he's too worried about how he looks. Let's hope England aren't relying on Bopara [for the Ashes] because they could be in trouble.''

Lol. I actually couldn't stop laughing when I read this, can't believe Warne would say this.

Now the English need someone to come out and say Phillip Hughes will fail at the international level ;)

Jones is injured and out of contract. Plunkett is still at Durham and crap.

To be fair on Plunkett, he isn't going to get much of a chance in that seam attack to prove himself. But yeah, he has fallen on the wayside.

How does Sharne Warne get away with being a twat so often? Now he's commentating?

Someone has to say to him, 'Oi! Shane, no! You're a twat!'

I wouldn't like to see Sidebottom in the side. He has hardly had any bowling.
Onions now has 50 wickets at 15.16 outbowling Harmison in the lastest county game. Sidebottom has played two matches 7 wickets. In the two 20/20 warm up matches and the first 20/20 Sidebottom played he didn't take any wickets. I hope Panesar isn't anywhere near the squad either.

Anderson, Broad, Onions, Flintoff and Swann. If they need another spinner then Rashid should play.

I happen to agree with you about Onions now. He's taken wickets for England and he's taken heaps of wickets for Durham, but there's just a feeling for me that Sidebottom could be more effective against Australia. I'd give Onions the job for the first couple of Tests though to see how he goes and if he doesn't perform then get Sidey in. Would be harsh to drop him now tbh.

Outbowling Harmison in that last game is no mean feat, he was apparently unplayable in the first innings. Fred said he bowled excellently against Lancs as well. He seems to do this every year now our Steve. Turns up on tour under-prepared and rusty, bowls crap, gets abit homesick and gets dropped. Then once he's gotten a few overs under his belt for Durham and is bowling every day he seemingly gets back to bowling at full pace and becomes a genuine wicket-taking threat. Did it last summer as well before performing well for England in that Test against the Saffa's. I'd definitely have him in my 17 man squad now, be very hard not to pick him and go for someone like Mahmood, Bresnan or heaven forbid Plunkett ahead of Steve.

What's the chances the England selectors pick Harmison for the first test?

I could so it happening.

It's called being a character. And I find him much more interesting to listen to than the usual inane, boring press conferences or articles that we are usually subjected to:

Yes we know you've been working hard in training, we know you think <opposition player A> is a dangerous player, we know you'll concentrate on your own game and the results will take care of themselves, we know you just want to play some good cricket... blah blah blah

It's just refreshing to know a guy is willing to share what he really thinks. Doesn't mean I agree, just means I admire his candor.

Warne is what has been missing from this Ashes campaign. Finally someone has sparked up something rather than this boring stuff on Ronald MacDonald and Horritz.

It's nothing to do with his comments. He can say what he likes. I love an opinionated commentator. Hes just a twat as a person and has proved it again and again yet it's always brushed under the carpet.

I'd take Patel ahead of Shah tbh. Offers a genuine bowling option and is probably better in the field. Screw the fitness, he's a good enough player, and he is fit enough to play regular cricket for Notts, so he's fit enough to do it for England. FC average of almost 48 with the bat and a bowling average of 33 which is only 1 short of Monty Panesar's bowling record. Get him in the 17 man squad and then once Colly's past it get him in the XI.

The problem for Samit is that the ECB will not drop the fitness issue. They will also want him playing ODI cricket before making his way into the test arena so you should think he's out of the reckoning for the squad.

Harmison shouldn't be near the squad. He has proven that he's not up to the standard of international cricket anymore. England really need to give up on Harmsion, plus with Onions and Bresnan bowling well, he's under them in terms of selection.

No difference between him and what Bob Willis has been doing. It's part of the banter and its great so I'm not complaining.

On the subject of Harmison we just can't pick him anymore there's no point in picking someone that only seems to be able to play at Home after extended practise.

Onions is still bowling brilliantly and just has to stay ahead of Sidebottom for the first test. Sidebottom in for the second test though in place of Rashid unless its spinning their aswell.

I don't think he'll be in the XI but he'd definitely get into the 17 man squad for me.

Quite frustrating situation really. Samit's a seriously good cricketer and has one of the better FC records in England and it's very annoying to see him throwing away a serious chance of a long International career by not getting himself fit enough. I'd forget the fitness issue tbh and just get him in the side. As far as I'm concerned, if he's fit enough to play a full County season for Notts then he's easily fit enough for England.

Harmison shouldn't be near the squad. He has proven that he's not up to the standard of international cricket anymore. England really need to give up on Harmsion, plus with Onions and Bresnan bowling well, he's under them in terms of selection.

I agree that Onions should be ahead of him, but certainly not Bresnan. Bresnan's a very average cricketer that was really shown no faith by Strauss until it was hooping round corners. He's not good enough for Test cricket, and given Harmison's current form I'd definitely be picking Steve ahead of Bresnan.

On the subject of Harmison we just can't pick him anymore there's no point in picking someone that only seems to be able to play at Home after extended practise.

I disagree. Harmison's clearly still good enough, but because of his action finds it incredibly difficult to go on tour and replicate his County form. If he was given more support by the ECB and given more practise games for a local side in the country he's playing in, he could then begin to replicate that form away from home. He was described as unplayable by Flintoff after the Lancs game and then got massive praise for his performance against Worcester. He deserves to be in the 17.

Onions is still bowling brilliantly and just has to stay ahead of Sidebottom for the first test. Sidebottom in for the second test though in place of Rashid unless its spinning their aswell.

It's not a matter of playing Onions and Rashid/MSP (we know the selectors will pick Monty, they're idiots) for Cardiff though. It's 1 or the other. Unless of course you're happy not playing Fred, Jimmy, Swann or Broad. I still torn on whether Gash is ready for Test cricket tbh. I'd like to see him given a go, but with Onions' form, he's more likely to perform well, whether it's a spinning pitch or not. Swann on his own should offer enough of a threat to get 20 wickets, KP can bowl a few overs if the pitch is really ripping as well.
