Australia in India

Hodge is great, but keep in mind the team we are fielding. All of the top six are among the highest regarded ODI players in the world and Watson has done a pretty good job of doing what is required in recent times, highlighted by his 65 not out in 32 balls against NZ in the World Cup. It's a brilliant side for batting, in fact it is such a brilliant side that you have to consider the waste of playing seven specialists. This side scored 434 without using two of its batsmen. However, it lost that same game because the bowling attack struggled for variety and lacked plan B.

In the field it is ridiculous to say there is no need for plan Bs, especially with the end of the McGrath era. With only the minimum 5 bowlers, the captain can't defend properly. He has to either risk bowling his most expensive charges to their full allotment or take a risk on a part-timer. When Australia can field a team that easily produces 300+ from just the first four or five batsmen, there is no good reason not to field a capable no. 7 who can bowl, be it Watson or whoever.

A little disappointed Cullen isn't in the squad

Same. If we want to see if he has got or not then giving the opportunity on this tour would be a good idea. I also don't like the fact that Hogg is the only spinner on the tour. India has got spin-friendly wickets written all over them. Seems a little stupid if you ask me.

Also, why would Australia name there squad so far out from the start of the tournament? Kinda seems a bit stupid

Bring in Hauritz if need be we definitely should have had a 2nd spinner apart from the fact it's India it would also bring up one of our youngsters.

Our bowlers need to stand up now that McGrath is gone, on paper it's one lethal lineup but what happens on the day can vary alot from that on paper.

If they picked a spinner for the India tour, it'd be more or less at random; there's no time to see how the bowlers perform in this season's matches and none is a clear cut choice. The other thing to note is that Symonds is about as effective as most of the options and Clarke certainly has his moments (Hodge bowls under-rated off breaks as well). In practical terms, who is this player going to come into the side for? Lee, Bracken or Tait? Big shoes to fill.

This series should be interesting. Hopefully there won't be injuries, so both teams will play at their full strength. Batting wise I would say both sides are equally matches, but the bowling of Australia is better.

Go check out Shane Warne's International records bowling against India in India.

Hogg is an exception but only because his wrongun' is simply unpickable when bowling with the white ball. Not even the Indians can master it.

I don't remember seeing either Dravid or Tendulkar struggling getting a chance to play Hogg or struggled against him. His wrongun became popular in WC if i am right..And India never had a chance to play it.

So without seeing, we can't come to any conclusion.

This should be a great series. I thought, India is going to Australia. Hopefully, Sehwag returns to good form :upray We have a very good records in ODIs under home conditions.. but still can't forget Tendulkar's struggle against McGrath in Champions Trophy. ( Almost he got nervous which i saw that for a first time ) So expecting a cracking ODI series ahead.

Remember that India will have Piyush Chawla,Powar and also Bhajji might be there in the squad. It will be a test for Piyush and his googlies against the Aussies.

They picked Hauritz on the 2004 tour when Australia beat India in India. Didn't really impress to much. Michael Clarke stole most of the limelight from that tour.

That is a pretty fair statement. It is always nice for selectors to see people perform before they are picked but I think if we want to see Cullen is at international bowling standards.

Hauritz was the pick of the spinners in the FRC last season. He also has been to India before so he knows what it is like to bowl in Indian conditions. Anyway bringing over a youngster to get a taste of Indian conditions would have been good. They could have either replaced Hogg or Watson for a few matches or if they series was already decided then perfect time to breed them.

Fair dinkum? Cullen is a grade cricket bowler. You want him to play Tests and he can't even get a wicket for SA?

Exactly my point. With 7 ODI's surely Australia could use at least one or two to put some young spinner in.

This is an ODI series. Cullen seems to be the most publicised spinner. Casson and Cullen Bailey don't seem to get much attention. Neither does Hauritz.
