Since Justin Langer has retired who'll become the other opener along side Haydos?

Adam Gilchrist
Phil Jaques
Simon Katich
Shane Watson
Michael Hussey
Chris Rogers

No Rogers in there?
Atm it seems as though it's between him and Jacques.

Yeah, bad poll to not include Chris Rogers. He is the front runner for sure. He can outbat Jaques any day of the week ~ and his First Class form last season was astonishing.

Scrap Watson for opening in Tests, thats the dumbest thing Ive ever heard. And Katich doesnt even have a CA contract!

Gilchrist opening would be sweet, but his name has never been mentioned. Chris Rogers and Phil Jaques were given contracts on the undertaking that they are preferred openers, but then if a player such as Hussey were placed to open, a selection of middle order players could be chosen. Hodge and Watson have also thrown their hats into the ring, but this is more about showing commitment, although Hodge would be one of the more in-form players available and a desirable all-round player.

Gilly will never be a full time opener in Test cricket. Just too much strain from having to keep the whole day then possibly batting the whole day.

Rogers will be the perfect one with Hayden, Jaques next in line.

Yeah, right on. I don't know if a 36 year old Gilly, with knees as stiff as your Dad's rusty adjustable, could handle squatting while keeping for 80 overs in a day then have to run off the field to pad up.

I get the feeling that Jaques is ahead of Rogers, although I believe that Rogers deserves the go. If Watson gets picked, I will assasinate Andrew Hilditch.

Hodge has also thrown his name into the fray, but I do doubt that he will be considered. As long as Merv pushes it.

Gilly could never open though, he's better as lower order slogger if we need some quick runs.

I think Hussey has a chance as well because he's definately under-estimated. If he was picked earlier in his early 20's he would have been the best batsmen of all time. He always gets high scores but never gets a proper chance too come in and take his time since he usually bats with tailenders.

He would have had 10 years less experience

We will make it a homicide.

And yeah, I have a feeling the selectors will pull something really stupid off and pick Phil because he is a New South Welshman:mad
