Why aren't the crowd chanting "give us a wave Lara" or something?

Poor chat from the crowd

Looks like Test cricket doesn't bring those crazy fans to the ground. This is more the serious cricket fans. As Wellington is well known for abusing the players, maybe because its at the Basin rather than the Caketin.

Haha forgot about that, commentators were talking about that and saying he could put a W so it says LBW but you wouldn't want that as a batter!

He could put an LBW and then have a cross through it. I think the tattoo removal technology is pretty good nowadays. Probably teach him a lesson though for next time :laugh

Good aggressive batting by Clarke, I thought he would look to survive the rest of the day.

Waiting for Mcintosh vs. Bollinger :D

*groan* North making runs. :p

Phillip Hughes really needs to be more careful, that's the second test match that he's played a lazy shot to get out in.

North looking pretty good right now. If he keeps this up, Smith could be carrying drinks for a while.

Why is Watto out? Could he possible be back for the next match? Funny how quickly he has become a vital part of the team, clutch opener and partnership breaker.

Wow, this is some really bad bowling, Southee and Arnel should be bowling. Not Martin anyway!

Injured Watson eyes second Test

Australia are hopeful of Shane Watson being fit for next week's second Test in Hamilton after he was ruled out of the series opener in Wellington due to a strain to his right hip. Watson's injury allowed Phillip Hughes to make an unexpected return to Test cricket at the Basin Reserve but with eight days until the Hamilton Test, Watson should be fit to resume his place.

"He was close to playing here," the team physio Alex Kountouris said. "He still has to be able to bat and get through all the things he has to do. It's very specific though. He could probably do 80% of what he needs to do, but not 100% and the things he can't do are quite important to him."

Kountouris compared the injury to the elbow problem that Ricky Ponting suffered when he was hit by a Kemar Roach bouncer in December. He said Watson was at risk of aggravating the injury if he worked the area too hard.

"It's a little bit like Ricky's injury with Roach, where he got hit and afterwards, every time you try to contract that muscle it gets quite painful and you can tear little fibres," he said. "So he's got a little muscle strain now as a result of the trauma. Batting is what's hurting, so we didn't even test him bowling at this stage. He couldn't even get through the batting at training, so if he couldn't do that, then there's no point pushing him any further."

Seems as though he'll be all good for the second test. I suppose it was good for him to miss this test instead of rushing him into the side half fit. Gives himself an extra week or so to recover.
