Ah well, goodish innings all the same. The pitch may be flat now but the bowling was still good, rated innings it must be said.
It's just a shame it takes McIntosh 30 overs to get his eye in, he actually looked really good from 50 onwards.

Its look we're staring down the barrel of yet another thrashing at hands of Australia. What we need now is another big partnership from Vettori and McCullum. They're getting good at them.
Good innings from McIntosh, really stick in there and it was a shame that he missed out on a century. But on the flip side it looks like Ingram ain't going to last long. He looks lost against the Aussie quicks and coupled with his lack of footwork, he was always going to be out for not a lot.

No, let's just drop one of the best performing batsmen in test cricket over the last year because he failed today.

While New Zealand might be ok at times, this kind of showing does nothing but reinforce a call for two tiers.

The one Bangladesh series win was over a depleted West Indies side, the West Indies series win over England when England collapsed for just over 50. New Zealand's last three series wins were all against Bangladesh, so those three sides have beaten a decent Test side (England) once between them and the only other series wins have come against each other - with New Zealand "top dog" among the mongrels
Pakistan have had a poor trot of recent form, but towards the start of the following 10 series run they had a run of four series wins out of five which including England, India, Sri Lanka and West Indies, then narrow back to back series defeats against South Africa and then 0-1 in India.

Not so many series wins, but decent enough results which aren't a million miles off what might happen to England in the same series
I don't know if NZ have enough time to change their squad for the 2nd Test but Williamson should get a go. We will expose any deficiencies he has like we have done for the current lot of Kiwi batters. So now they know what to work on for the future.
Would like to see them last 200odd balls and score 80odd runs against Australia tbh.
The McIntosh basing is disgusting. He's about the only NZ batsman that puts a price on his wicket right now and bats sensibly. Sure he's a bit slow and misses the odd crap ball but he at least blunts the new ball and does his job so it's easier for those coming in later. It;s those other guys - especially Ingram who muck it up.
3 is a pivotal role in batting. Ingram there is a joke. Ingram in the side is a joke. If he's to play test cricket with that horrible technique he's best at about 5 or 6 which is not where we need him.
