Australia tour of New Zealand 2010

Two question for NZ fans.

- Why is Neil Broom near the ODI & T20 set-up?

- Why is Franklin batting in the top 6?

These two things are really frustrating me. Broom just doesn't seem to have what it takes to cut it in the international arena. When Harris was bowling to him after Ingram was dismissed, I had a sense that he would be out very soon. And we all know what happened.

Franklin is just not the right person to put in at No. 5. It's a stupid decision. I'd like him to play, just not batting in the top 6.

Hopkins is the second-best keeper/batsman in the country and McCullum's back wasn't up to keeping. He's probably not the second best in terms of actual keeping though...

Does Kruger Van Wyk not qualify yet? I think he'd be the second best keeper-batsman in the country if he does qualify.

He probably would be, from the limited amount i've seen of him he's very aggressive and as a keeper very tidy.. He was in a bit of a form slump but smashed a huge hundred (178*).

As for Stewart, he just smashed 227* so no better time to call him up. He's a lot like Craig McMillan as a batsman for those who haven't heard much of him.

Just heard that someone will be coming into replace the injured Franklin and that Taylor is not in good shape either.

Fair point. IIRC Martin Crowe NZ's greatest batsmen also struggled early on when picked on raw talent, but later on stepped up.

If this Williamson bloke is the real deal, NZ might as well give him a go.

Martin Crowe struggled because he'd yet to do anything at domestic level, he hadn't scored a 100 in any form of the game before he made his one day and test debut. People who are scared that he'll become the next Crowe (in terms of getting his career started) have to realise that Williamson has already racked up six 100's and 12 50's in his career to date.

Who do you guys think? Williamson got 621 runs at 78 and 13 wickets at 25 from 11 games. Sounds good to me.

Other options could be Stewart(401 runs) or Papps(501 runs)

Where did you hear that?

Can't see it being Papps unless they're dropping Ingram.

So you guys are talking about Kane Williamson? He is 19 so maybe it is just a bit too early, but the situation NZ are in there should be a replacement, and it is not a bad idea to give young players a go.

Papps is an opener so would be weird selecting him in the side. He'd have to replace Ingram. I don't think they like Papps for some reason. I mean he played 6 games scoring 2 fifties and averages 51 yet he's been ignored for a handful of seasons now. Feel sorry for him. It can only be for test form he got dropped which is absurd. The selectors have been so anti-canterbury lately.

Stewart is another Cantab so I bet he's ignored. Willaimson is the obvious replacement for Taylor IMO. Stewart can replace Broom and N McCullum can replace Franklin.

I reckon Broom will get another go now I can't see them making huge changes to a team which has pushed the aussies. Nathan will probably replace Franklin and we might see Williamson if Taylor can't play.

Has anyone been listening to Radio Sport this morning? Has Kane Williamson been mentioned much?

Shanan Stewart has been called up.
