Australia tour of South Africa 2018

How did Khawaja get picked again?Maxwell deserved it. Could've had Shaun Marsh bat at 3 because of his stability at the top order and Maxwell could've batted at 6
Tough to make four changes in a XI. Khawaja isn't an awful player, he makes runs every now and then, but he's so inconsistent. That 171 against England saved him from getting dropped, now with one fifty in this series he should be dropped. This should be his last outing, Maxi has been waiting in the wings and should cement his place at no.6 and S Marsh promoted to No.3.

Daryl Harper warned of Smith and Warner being involved in ball tampering in 2016 itself
https://www.smh.com.au/sport/cricke...-smith-and-warner-before-20180329-p4z6xh.html

I called him a cheat (for repeatedly being involved in law breaking incidents and always calling it 'the first time') and refused to buy into his 'tear jerking drama' that he unleashed in the past few days. Now, I am very happy to be where I stand. Probably he cried because he has not been exposed this badly in the worldwide media for his offences. But seeing what he has done, there should be no sympathy for him. It now makes sense for ICC to investigate into the series played in Australia in the recent past, especially the recent Ashes where Stuart Broad implicitly indicated that Australians reversed the ball in conditions where nobody would expect the ball to reverse that soon.

When [HASHTAG]#brainfade[/HASHTAG] happened I openly called him that word here and some people resorted to calling me names for it. However, anyone with an ounce of common sense would have understood why the Indians were annoyed with whatever happened..

Anyhow, this is all water under the bridge. I don't think/feel all the emotion is fake and I don't think we're anyone to comment. These guys have made a mistake and are paying a huge price for it. Our board would have never had the stones to make such a call on a Kohli, Rahane and Rahul. I also don't get the point of digging old graves and going into all those investigations. We all make mistakes in life and these three just happen to be in a profession watched by millions. Let's move on.. As I said, people are hurting and sad and we should show them compassion and not rub it in.

This is just my feeling Sai.

I am not interested in rubbing it in, either for the players involved or for Aussie fans. My only grouse here is all the outpouring of sympathy and compassion for these players in the past few days. Some even went to the point of digging up conspiracy theories on whether Smith/Warner were paying for their revolt for pay hike with Cricket Australia. I hope tomorrow it does not become a case where you can get away with things by shedding a few tears. I would have had more sympathy for a player who is doing a mistake for the first time. But its clear here that Smith is a repeat offender and its just that in this case, his actions have received worldwide backlash where he has been called a cheat.

I'll obviously stop at this.

reverse swing has always had an element of suspicion

Yeah bloody oath!

Can anyone explain the science behind achieving "reverse" swing? Most of us, actually probably everyone of us knows how "conventional" swing works (I.e; the air travels over the shiny side quicker than the rough side of the ball).
But how does "reverse" swing work? Its not like the seam does a 180 mid air and then starts swinging like it conventional but "reverse" of what the batsman seen coming out of the hand... The best I've heard is that saliva applied to the ball on the shiny side to buff it repeatedly eventually creates a "heavier side" to the ball (similar to a taped tennis ball) and the ball goes to the shiny side.

So what's going here? How does it happen? And what the feck is sandpapering the "rough" side got to do with "reverse" swing? (*Guess, maybe making that side lighter?)

Sorry just interested how it all works?

Markram has been brilliant in this series. Some of his shots were beautiful to watch.

Also, what was the point of flying Maxwell all the way from Australia, only to have him serve drinks and carry bottles? Was this Lehmann's or Smith's last wish? :p

Reverse swing really defies science on a whole.

One theory floating about them using sandpaper was too degrade the ball to such an extent that the umpires approved of a ball change, for some reason the old balls that are in the cupboard sitting long tend to reverse, well if you have a skill bowler of the dark art like Starc to use it.

1 Year is not that bad to be honest, Mohammed Amir and Mohammed Asif got like 5 years..but yeah match fixing is worse I guess.

Don't compare them with Amir and Asif. Match fixing is a horrendous ..crime.

Before this comes down to specifics, let's not derail the thread and keep the discussions to the cricket at play.

Surprised to see Maharaj play this slow. He usually goes for his shots from the word go. Perhaps he has been instructed to occupy the crease and let Temba complete his century.

Temba misses his 100. Dafuq.

His own fault. He had ample time to get it when Maharaj was with him. Not sure why he was still playing so conservatively.
