Birt won the game single handly with the bat

we lost as soon as rogers went off

Heal has been awesome today first he tried rebuilding the inns then he just smashed out. I would get him in the ODI side if he can bowl well today.

NSW second XI are going good. Casson 11 overs 1-16 when I checked at school an hour ago. Moises had a wicket too and Vic's were 5-120 or something.

Bushy "Hill >> Hughes" just got out for 54 to Starc. So all our bowlers apart from McGrath mk 3 have a wicket. Quite crazy how many bowlers we have, we have used 7 and we still have O'Keefe. I will be watching how Henriques goes with the bat, that has been his big problem.

Hodge back will be a big gain, our batting lineup looks pretty weak at the moment with him, White and Hussey out. We have a lot of depth in our bowling but not so much in our batting it seems. Finch fails again, I'm not seeing the promise there.
They came close in a tough situation and while someone like Rogers is obviously not suited in what was effectively a monster chase, I don't think they did all that badly.

Victoria getting owned by Queensland. Laughlin and Rimmington have killed Victoria. McKay bowled well and now having to save Victoria with the bat.

Okay, now they're getting absolutely pantsed. With Rogers injured, even though Hodge has just returned, I think maybe Nick Jewell could have been useful as a cool head in a crisis. They've got Wade, Finch and Hastings in the same side and with Crosthwaite batting at six, it's a batting lineup that really doesn't know enough about itself.

However, looking at some of the balls that Queensland have made to jag off the deck, I can't help but think that the Victorian bowlers failed to use the conditions effectively. Symonds and Simpson were top scorers with 39 each and yet the team was not bowled out. The tail scored a vital 64 runs.

Still, I have to admit mesmerism at the deliveries that Ben Laughlin is able to produce. Although his pace is bare fast-medium at best, he has a complete book of tricks.

Pretty much after Hodge there wasn't much left in Victoria's batting. They would have been better off keeping Hill in the side but always was going to be hard for them to replace both Hussey and White.

In other news our backup keeper for the ODI side (Ronchi) has now been dropped. So if Haddin didn't have his spot secured already it certainly is now.

All eyes on the Redbacks, where Cosgrove and Bailey have been called upon. Also included are the rookie quick bowler Jake Haberfield who has been so valuable in the one day game, opener James Smith and Australian u-19 batsman Michael Cranmer.

Daniel Doran is also back for Queensland. To expect Bailey to just come in and produce is asking a lot. This chopping and changing also isn't helping the spinners, the sides need to have faith in the spinner on any track. I don't know how Cullen has delivering but unless his action has totally fallen apart they should have kept him in the side.

One spinner hasn't been used well already in the latest Shield match. Doran came on as the 7th bowler and only bowled 6 overs. Cosgrove continues his great comeback run though with a 100 not out and Dan Harris in form in all forms of cricket.

Henriques had his best all round game for NSW making 38 off 45 balls and 2-35. So maybe the selectors picking him has actually worked on his performance. The two big hitters delivered with Quiney making 50 at a run a ball and Warner 48 at near a run a ball. Hughes 47 at a strike rate of 57 is the reason why he hasn't been considered for the ODI side.

What I see from Hughes is more the score and less the strike rate. He never gets anything like a big score in one dayers. In conditions that were obviously not perfect, 100 in 150 balls might have been a pretty good knock; Rogers played this sort of a role for Victoria which seemed to be the difference between the two. However, for NSW, Hughes' 48 off 84 was to their detriment in multiple ways.

Yeah that has been Hughes problem for a while. He usually starts solidly in the Shield before excelling, then in One Dayers he tried to hit from the start. But now he has started just playing solidly from the start in One Dayers, he hasn't been able to pick the tempo up.

Good to see Cosgrove in the runs here after his call up. Big ton so far and hopefully he can make it bigger.

LOL at Ronchi being dropped. Can't believe people wanted him as our first choice keeper. Also, Steven Smith scored 83 and 33, as well as taking 2-64 and 5-54 for NSW 2nd XI.
