Well the Aussies are under some pressure here and they are feeling it. They are going at a turtle's pace at the moment. But the good thing is that they havent lost any wickets.
Matthew Hayden is sure to spend tonight sleeping restlessly after a tense first days play of the second test match at Cape Town against South Africa. Hayden returned to the pavilion with the score at 2/212, Hayden himself unbeaten on a well made 94 and Damien Martyn yet to score.
Nicky Boje provided a late fightback for the homside when he trapped Australian Captain Ricky Ponting infront when the number 3 was looking in good touch on 56. This allowed South Africa to go into the sheds with a feeling of momentum and the hope that day two will prove to be a more eventful and fruitful day.
But it was Hayden that dominated day 1 of play, edging his way to 94 not out from an unusually long 253 balls, perhaps paying credit to some tight bowling from Pollock, Boje and company. Ponting will be kicking himself that he did not convert his 50 into a century on what is a very good batting track.
(Nicky Boje provided the late fightback for South Africa, but it was Haydens day as he compiled 94*)

Although a slow but a really good start from aussies and if they can pass 450 then i think aussies wont have much trouble winning this one. Good job MWaugh keep the good work. I really like your thread.
Matthew Hayden experienced the toughest heartbreak available on the cricket field when he was dismissed for 99 at the hands of Robin Peterson in the opening overs of the second days play at Cape Town.
Hayden joined an illusive club as he top edged a Peterson delivery into the hands of wicket keeper Mark Boucher as Australia slipped to 3/219.
Hayden joined recent famous Australians including Steve Waugh, Greg Blewett and Shane Warne in falling on the dreaded numbers.
Test newcomer Robin Peterson and South African legend Shaun Pollock lead the fightback for the home side in the first session of play on day 2 of the second test against Australia at Cape Town today.
Peterson (2/48 from 22 overs) and Pollock (2/93 from 41 overs) combined well to take 3 wickets in the first session to put Australia in a slightly unsettled position as they attempt to make a 400 + score to put South Africa on the ropes and even up the test series at 1-1.
Peterson took the vital wicket of Matthew Hayden on 99 when he was caught behind attempting to sweep the young spinner. Pollock then took the following two wickets, beating Simon Katich with his pace off the dusty track with a short ball that was hooked down to fine leg where the catch was taken by fellow paceman Makhaya Ntini.
Damien Martyn was the last wicket to go before lunch and he looked in good form before he was fooled by a Pollock slower ball that he lofted to cover and the waiting hands of Nicky Boje.
One of the positives for Australian fans around the world is that young superstar Michael Clarke looking in very good touch on 27 while master-blaster Adam Gilchrist is unbeaten on 16.
