Lee Continues Punishment - India 5/215

Brett Lee continued to terrorise the Indian middle order with a brutal spell of fast bowling as he took the wicket of Dinesh Karthik for a duck to put Australia in a stronger position at 5/215 on day 1 of the 1st test match.

Lee's fast and short balls peppered the young inexperienced keeper who eventually hooked the ball to Michael Hussey at backward square leg. Lee now claiming 3 of Australia's 5 wickets for the innings.

Sourav Ganguly will now have the task of batting with the 5 man tail for the visitors in the hope of reaching a total around 350.

Watson Snares Kumble - India 6/255

Shane Watson took his first wicket of the test match late on day 1 with the dismissal of Anil Kumble for 8 as India fell to 6/255. With less than 10 overs left to play in the day, Watson bowled one of the deliveries of the day which drew Kumble into a forward defensive shot that caught the outside edge.

The edge flew to Matthew Hayden, standing at gully in a packed slip corden (with 3 slips and a gully). The large Hayden did extremely well to get down in time to take a catch at ground level, putting further pressure on Sourav Ganguly and India late on day 1.

Honours Even - India 6/272

The honours appeared to be shared after an eventful and exciting first day of cricket in the test series between Australia and India at the Gabba today. India finished the day at 6/272, Sourav Ganguly (28) and Harbhajan Singh (2) the not out batsman. Brett Lee was the pick of the Australian bowlers with 3/65 from 22 overs.

But the day belonged to Gautam Gambhir who made a magnificent 110 on Australian debut to play a leading role early on. India will now rely heavily on a good performance from former captain Sourav Ganguly early in day 2 to boost an advantage over the home side.

Tubby's Evaluation - Day 1

Today was just the start that everybody was waiting for between these two teams. We knew that there was always going to be passion and fight in the contest but today has been packed with emotion aswell as skill, flair and aggression.

A wonderful start to the game for India with Gautam Gambhir making a slashing 110 from only 165 balls while Rahul Dravid provided his consistant best with 60 from 162 balls.

Brett Lee was the star for the Aussies. Taking 3 wickets, the two most crucial of Tendulkar and Dravid to put Australia back in the game. If Brett handnt of come back so hard Australia could allready be looking down the barell of defeat.

Tomorrow will be crucial. Whoever strikes first may hold the key to victory.

Watson Strikes First - India 7/276

Shane Watson made the early breakthrough for Australia with just the 2nd ball of the second days play to dismiss Harbhajan Singh for 6 and leave India at 7/276.

Singh only spent 2 balls at the crease on day 2 of the test. The 1st flying off the edge through the vacant region between 3rd slip and gully. However the 2nd ball forced Singh onto the back foot which again drew the edge that this time flew straight to Ricky Ponting at 2nd slip who took a comfortable head height catch.

McGrath Snares Agarkar

Glenn McGrath took his first wicket of the match with the dismissal of Ajit Agarkar for only 2 as India slipped further to 8/295 early on day 2 of the test. Agarker was caught fending at a short ball outside his off stump which flew to Justin Langer in the third slip position. Langer taking another beauty of a catch, diving to his high right to dismiss the attacking tailender.
