thanks mate.

at the moment im thinking 10 over updates so that we can keep moving through the tournament and also rather than just post a few scorecards at the end. your thoughts?

I was thinking that as well. I was thinking like after the first 15 then 35 then end of innings. You do asummary of what basically has happened in each update

Katich Must Produce

Simon Katich has been told that he must score runs in the immediate future or risk being axed from the Australian one day squad during the VB series. The new chairman of selectors, Andrew Hilditch, hinted that changes will be made during the tournament with an eye on the upcoming Ashes tournament and the preceding World Cup.

(Simon Katich has been told he must perform to retain his place in the side at the top with Adam Gilchrist)

Knocking on the door of selection is young South Australian batsman Mark Cosgrove. Cosgrove has impress selectors of late with his results against the touring countries. The youngster hit 63 from only 40 deliveries for Australian in the Twenty20 match in Brisbane against India, and then backed it up with 58 in Australia A's crunching win over Pakistan at Hobart.

Phil Jaques is another who will be looking to push for selection at the top of the order. With test openers Matthew Hayden and Justin Langer having a less than desirable home test series, Jaques is firming as a selection bolter for the West Indies test and one day tour.

(Phil Jaques will hope to impress selectors when given his chance)

The team is expected to begin its squad rotation policy during the 4th game of the series when the home side entertain Pakistan in Sydney.

"We are well aware off what lies ahead for our players with the West Indies, Ashes and World Cup around the horizon. For this fact we will use the rotation system to give some members a break and bloody some new talent, like Mark (Cosgrove), Phil Jacques Shaun Tait and Dan Cullen who have all performed well so far in domestic cricket and when called upon for their country."

Why, you like seeing him score a duck!

Naah! kidding.

Great win for the Aussies. Pakistan not completing their full 50 overs has cost them dearly in this match. Inzi was a deserving MoM.

India To Begin Campaign

India will begin their one day adventure in game two of the VB series against Australia in Melbourne tonight. Coming off the back of a 2-1 test series victory over the home side, confidence will be high for the team lead by Rahul Dravid.

India are expected to go into the match with a team balanced in favour of the bowlers, with Irfan Pathan selected as the bowling all rounder in a lineup that includes promising youngsters Sreesanth, Jai Prakash Jadav and Mahendra Dhoni giving the side a new more exciting look.

(Young 23 year old paceman Sreesanth represents a new breed of Indian pace bowlers)

The battling lineup will again rely heavily on the superstar trio of Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag and captain Rahul Dravid and with a relatively inexperienced attack, the top order will have to fire against the pace of Lee and McGrath for Australia, and Akhtar and Sami for Pakistan.

(Entertaining wicketkeeper batsman Mahendra Dhoni will open the innings for India)

Indian coach Greg Chappell sounded confident of his charges abilities and their chances in winning the VB series.

"The mood in the camp at the moment is very positive and very exciting. Everybody is still obviously on a high after our great display in the test matches but we have got some really hot young prospects who are starting to fire for us now and I think they will give Australia and Pakistan a real shake here. It could be a sign of big things to come for both the players and the team"

Match Introduction - Coin Toss

GAME 2

"By the looks of the way the pitch performed there seemed to be the greatest point to bowl early in the match. Probably to do with the way the wicket is prepared during the day of the match. For this reason I think we will have a bowl first off. We have a strong bowling lineup and we can chase totals so I think this will help our chances"

Rahul Dravid
(Indian Captain)

"This wicket is nice and hard and we had a great time batting on it at night in game 1. For that reason im not unhappy that we are batting first here, I can see the reasoning from Rahul's side but we probably would have elected to bat first anyway so we are more than prepared. I think the first 20 overs will be crucial. We have to work hard and set our lower order up for a big finish."

Ricky Ponting
(Australian Captain)

Teams Take To The Field

Rahul Dravid has lead his chargers onto the field for their first match in the VB series while first match hero Adam Gilchrist and the under the pump Simon Katich takes to the field to face the music for Australia. Test hero Zaheer Khan will take the new ball for the tourists with Irfan Pathan.

Gilly Goes Early - Australia 1/15

Adam Gilchrist can count himself very unfortunate after being dismissed in just the third over of play when adjudged LBW to Irfan Pathan for 10 as Australia slipped early to be 1/15.

There was a moan around the ground from the Australian supporters at the MCG when the replays were shown, with Gilchrist looking to have been hit on the pads outside the line of leg stump. It was an unfortunate end to the vice captains innings, which looked to pick up where it left off in the first match with a vital match winning innings.
