Captain Ricky Ponting and young superstar Michael Clarke have put on an unbeaten 53 run partnership to bring Australia back into the match with the score at 4/149. Ponting (66) and Clarke (21) have looked very confident at the crease and will look to build on with the innings stil at the half way point.
Young Australian batsman Michael Clarke fell for a stylish 24 with Australia sitting dangerously at 5/158. Although looking impressive against the bowling of Sachin Tendulkar and Zaheer Khan, Clarke eventually fell to Sreesanth who was returing after being hit around initially by Ricky Ponting.
This will put further pressure on Ricky Ponting and the hottest property in Australian cricket the current point in time with Michael Hussey joining his captain at the crease.

Ricky Ponting has continued his great innings to put Australia back into contention in the match with 5/180 from 30 overs. As per his usual game, Ponting has been aggressive when digging his team out of trouble, scoring 81 from 82 balls to almost single handedly stand up to the Indian attack. Michael Hussey has started his innings well with 11 from 10 balls.
In typical Australian fashion, although their backs are too the wall, the home side have still managed to score at 6 runs per over.

Australian Ricky Ponting finally received the rewards of his hard work as he reached his first one day century of the year to steer Australia to a stronger position at 5/220. Ponting brought up his stylish century off 108 balls which included 9 boundaries and 2 sixes.
Ponting has showcased the attacking nature of the Australian cricket team at the current point in time. Despite their backs being hard pressed against the wall, Ponting has continued to attack. Showing that sometimes attack is the best form of defence.

Ricky Ponting and Michael Hussey have done a superb job to get their side into a strong position heading into the final 10 overs of their innings at the MCG. Ponting has lead the way with 107 not out from 115 balls while Hussey has supported very well with 31 from 37.
