Michael Hussey and Ricky Ponting have brought up a crucial 100 run stand for the 6th wicket to take Australia to 5/258. Hussey has contributed an unbeaten 47 to the total while Ponting is still standing on 118 not out.
Michael Hussey brought up his unbeaten half century from only 53 balls as Australia produced a remarkable turn around to reach 5/263 with still 7 overs remaining in the innings. Hussey has played his typically attacking yet measured innings, with 4 boundaries in the innings.
The West Australian new comer is quick establishing his name as the premier one day batsman in the Australian one day lineup, again coming to his sides rescue batting at number 7.
(Michael Hussey showed that there is a great deal of sense in playing straight early in your innings,
picking up singles down the ground to keep the scorecard ticking over.)
Harbhajan Singh finally picked up his first wicket with the crucial dismissal of Michael Hussey for a well made 57. Australia eventually lost their 6th wicket at the score of 287, Ricky Ponting and Hussey putting on a 129 partnership. Husseys attacking innings eventually came to an end after being caught behind by wicketkeeper Mahendra Dhoni.
Hussey looked to slap Singh away through the vacant point region but instead could only manage a fine edge that was well taken by the young keeper.
India have been set a target of 296 runs to win the 2nd match of the VB series at the MCG today. Lead by their brilliant captain Ricky Ponting, Australia managed to score at 5.9 runs per over despite being in trouble early after a top order collapse.
Ponting compiled as stinging 141 not out innings from 146 balls, perhaps sending Indian thoughts streaming back to the 2003 World Cup Final in South Africa when Ponting slammed 140 from 121 balls as Australia scored 2/359.

Michael Hussey also featured strongly in the total of 295, scoring 57 from 60 balls batting at number 7 to help hold the innings together.
Mahendra Dhoni and Virender Sehwag will now have to take an attacking and positive approach to the innings being forced to score at 5.92 runs per over from the outset to win the match.
