Dhoni Vs Akhtar = Honours Even - India 0/55 (15.0)

The much anticipated Mahendra Dhoni vs Shoaib Akthar clash could be most likely decided as a draw after India were restricted to 0/55 from their opening 15 overs at Hobart. In reply to Pakistans 10/150, Dhoni was unable to break the shackles of Akhtar, however will count himself one up on the paceman in that he remained not out on 29 from 40 balls as the field was moved back.

Akthar bowled with common sense as he kept it tight to have figures of 0/24 from 8 overs, including 2 maidens. Virender Sehwag looked well below his best with 22 from 50 deliveries faced.

Come on Dhoni!!!!! India in good position!!!!

India Dig Themselves A Hole - India 2/118 (30.0)

The Indian top order have dug themselves into a significant hole as they chase down 251 to win the 3rd VB match. Coming into the match hot off the back of a crushing display by Mahendra Dhoni against Australia, the Indian top order has struggled to score at only 3.93 per over chasing an original target of 5.02 an over.

Mahendra Dhoni was out to Shahid Afridi for 40 while Virdender Sehwag was run out after a very slow 31 from 66 balls. Sachin Tendulkar (19) and Rahul Dravid (17) will now need to score at 6.65 per over for the remaining 20 overs to win the match.

India Slump To 27 Run Defeat - India 9/223

Pakistan scored their first victory of the VB series as India slumped to a 27 run defeat at Hobart. The Indian batating lineup never really got going, loosing wickets late in the innings to be resoundly beaten as Pakistan well and truely proved that this VB series is alive and kicking.

Danish Kaneria (2/22) and Abdul Razzaq (2/31) were the key wicket takers for the men in green, while Mahendra Dhoni again top scored for a lineup which appeared to struggle once its young batsman fell.

Match Presentation

"This gives us a much better chance in this competition. If we had of lost here today it could have been the end for us allready, however we showed that we have the fighting spirit everyone in Pakistan carries and we have definatly got our foot back in the door here. Its still a concern for us that we cannot bat our full 50 overs, so that is something we will have to work on. But at the moment im very happy."

Inzimam-ul-Haq
(Pakistan Captain)

(Inzamam Ul Haq was again in fine form, top scoring with 60)

"Its very dissapointing to go down in this fashion. We had the chance today to put ourselves in a great position in this series but unfortunatly our top order didnt fire. That is something we have to really address, wether it means swapping some players around or introducing someone in to spark it up. If you look at the Australia match, if you take out Mahendra's (Dhoni) innings it wasnt overly impressive."

Rahul Dravid
(India Captain)

(A dejected Rahul Dravid walks after being dismissed in the run chase)

"Thank you very much to VB for the award today. While it is always great to get a personal award, it was just really great to get a win under our belts and get our foot in the door in this competition. Full credit to the way we bowled today, Shoaib bowled very well at the top and Danish and Rana bowled well towards the end. We consider ourselves a good chance in this competition now."

Abdul Razzaq
(Man Of The Match)

(Abdul Razzaq's late order slogging and 2 wickets helped Pakistan to a vital victory)

Australia "A" Arrive In Tassie

The Australian "A" team arrived in Hobart ahead of the one day clash with India as part of the tourists warm up schedule for the VB series. After a crushing victory over Australia in game 2 and resounding defeat at the hands of Pakistan in game 3, the tourists will be looking to settle their lineup ahead of the remaining matches.

The Australian "A" squad will do battle with both the Indian and Pakistan teams in a move to promote the sport further in Tasmania. The big news coming out of the naming of the squad is the return of paceman Jason Gillespie, who has recovered from the injury his sustained on the tour to South Africa.

"Im just delighted to be back in the squad and back playing cricket. I feel very fresh and hopefully i can make some progress. At the moment, my goal is on returning to the team for West Indies tour at some stage, and then obvioulsy the Ashes is my big goal."

Australia "A" vs India

Australia "A" Captain Brad Haddin has won the toss and elected to bat

Australian "A" opener Phil Jaques has pushed strong claims to replace the out of form Simon Katich at the top of the order in the Austrlaian team, while Harbhajan Singh was ruthless with 6/66.

It was a good batting exercise for the out of sorts Indian top order, Dhoni again in the runs while Sehwag and Tendulkar struck some form. Paul Rofe was the pick of the bowlers and the return of Jason Gillespie is a promising sign for the Australian bowling stocks.

Australia "A" vs Pakistan

Pakistan captain Inzamam-Ul-Haq has won the toss and elected to field.

Captain Brad Haddin again impressed selectors with his half century. Phil Jaques also performed well on the eve of the 4th VB team to be named while Simon Katich was also amongst the runs. Danish Kaneria took 3 wickets but was very expensive.

The young South Australian bowling pair of Shaun Tait and Paul Rofe combined to guide Australia "A" to victory. Shahid Afridi top scored but took 122 balls to make only 66. Jason Gillspie again impressed, conceding only 2.7 an over from his 10 overs.

lol that is funny Aus A beating Pakistan :D

New Faces Introduced To Australian Squad

A crushing defeat by India and a grueling home and away season has forced a number of changes to the Austalian one day team who will take on Pakistan at the Sydney Cricket Ground in game 4 of the VB series.

After impressing performances in every match he has been given an opportunity in, Phil Jaques has forced his way into the team at the expense of Simon Katich. Jaques will partner Adam Gilchrist at the top of the order.

(Phil Jaques prepares in the nets ahead of his international debut)

The bowling stocks have been changed after the brutal innings from Mahendra Dhoni in Melbourne. A tired looking Glenn McGrath has been rested from the side as part of the rotation policy as the young slinger Shaun Tait comes into the side to partner Brett Lee with the new ball.

(Shaun Tait, seen playing against Pakistan last week, has impressed during the Australia "A" matches and get his shot in the first team)

Damien Martyn has also been excluded from the team as Stuart Clark makes his way into the team to bolster the bowling ranks. The Australians going into the match with 4 seamers (Lee, Tait, Bracken and Clark) along with 2 spinners on a dry Sydney deck (Brad Hogg and Andrew Symonds)

Pakistan Adjust To Suit Conditions

Pakistan have made two changes to the team that beat India with Rana Naved-ul-Hasan making way for batting all rounder Shoaib Malik. On the dusty SCG pitch, it appears the Pakistan team are looking for slightly more depth in the batting department, while Malik will give the team another bowling option aswell with his off spin.

Salman Butt also comes into the side for the match at the expense of Imran Farhat as Pakistan still search for their best opener. It is believed Butt will handle the spin friendly conditions.

(Shoaib Malik comes into the team to add extra depth to the batting lineup)
