Australian ODI tour of the United Kingdom and Ireland, June-July 2010

We need to find more singles. I think that's the difference between the two teams at the moment, when they ball good balls we dot it up, when we bowl good balls they pinch a single. It causes the pressure to build up and thus causes us to play poor shots. Most of our wickets have been really soft, not just today but throughout the series.

Our confidence is shot and England are well and truly on top. They've also placed their fielders well clearly.

As long as they capitalise on their position, Australia can make a good score. There are signs that they are already accelerating. Strauss is rotating the bowlers more than he'd probably like and he's not going to his big attacking options. Australia are just about on the money, as long as they can keep it up. If they get bogged down, it will be a problem.

Strauss taking advantage of the fact this match is even more meaningless than the earlier three, and using it to bowl Yardy out of the team.

Was only half joking, as usual.

Clarke is stranded on 99 runs. He should have reached his century some time ago.

Australia reached 290-5. Finally a challenging total.

77 off the last 10 wasn't a good effort, especially when 24 came in the last 2. From a platform of 2/213, I would say that's precisely a failure to capitalise. Fortunately Smith introduced some counter-attack, because it was otherwise lacking in expansiveness.

Nevertheless, I'm suspicious of England's intent to contain. Regardless of conditions, form and confidence, 290 is a big total for England. Although it doesn't seem like an impossible score, they're not a well proven side in such chases. I don't doubt that they can better Australia's final 10, but they will first have to demonstrate the application of the earlier overs and that could be interesting.

What a fantastic decision!

Just got a phone call from an old college friend, he is in England for vacation and is at the ODI! Called me ask what the hell was going on :laugh
