Australian Tour of India, October 2010/11

Is this Harbhajans 3rd time (im thinking the follow on series and last time Aus were in India are the only times)playing Aus at home? I'll hazard a guess and say his stats get worse each time and that this will be his worse home series against Oz yet

Mishra will step up, I still think he is class, or potential class

His first test was in 98 vs Australia, so this is the 5th home series for him against us ( 98, 01, 04, 08, 10).

Still does not take away the fact that he is biased. I might have hype it a bit but I can not believe that someone was picked for a national side based on his performance in IPL, which is not even a game of cricket. Murli Vijay is nowhere a best available ODI opener after Sacin, Sehwag and Gambhir.

Are you high? Every TN player selected has been smashing runs in domestic cricket. They are all the epitome of class.

Its not based on IPL at all, it has been based on ranji performances...

I have said this before and I will say it yet again, we have fielded an all North India XI SOO many times in the last few years. there are 5 delhi players alone, give me a break.

Gambhir, Nehra, Ishant, Kohli, Mishra, Sehwag...hello? Thats 6.

Kiran More and Vengsarkar were both worse. I think Cheeka's been pretty good.

I'm pretty sure the series wont be broadcasted here, even though the last Border Gavaskar Series was by BCCI tv. :(

So I read the pitch is looking a little greener than last series: Green means go for quicks and Hauritz - Yahoo!7 Sport

This probably suits the Aussies selections rather than India, as I think the Aussies were always going with 3 fast + 1 spin. It just means now that Watson may bowl a bit more than North in support of the main 4. But for India it may be a bit tougher. I think 2 spinners would be better for them most of the time against the Aussies, but with a bit of green they may go for Sreesanth. Although I guess Sehwag can always bowl a fair bit so they would still have a 2nd spinning option.

Its still a day and a half to go before the game starts. But it would be nice if the pitch had some grass left on it. India would go in with three seamers (Zaheer, Ishant, Sreesanth) and have the lone spinner in Harbhajan/Ojha (if Bhajji doesnt play). Sehwag can act as the backup spinner in case needed. But I highly doubt if they would leave much of grass on the wicket for the game. If they do, advantage Australia!

More than wicket Ponting will be hoping his bowlers maintain decent over rates. It costed them twice in last series.

^haha true.

Though I don't think India will be willing to go in with 3 seamers, I think Dhoni would go for 2 spinners if Bhajji will play, if not Ojha will be the only spinner in that case I think.

If the wicket has a tinge of green, I feel it would not be that bad for India as well. Our bowlers look a lot better when there is help from the wicket. Harbhajan is`nt going to win you test matches unless its an absolute minefield,to be brutally honest.

If a bit of green on the pitch forces us to play 3 seamers, that would automatically lend some balance to the team. 2 spinners and 2 seamers is a strategy which depends too heavily on the toss. If you lose the toss and bowl first with that kind of a composition, you are playing catchup cricket anyway, India should stop worrying about playing two spinners if Sehwag is fit to bowl. If Sehwag can give you 10-15 overs every innings, he would most of the times be as successful as Harbhajan.

That did not cost them the series last time. The reason they lost was because their seamers got outbowled by the Indian seamers and the wickets were hardly the traditional Indian dustbowls either.

Could someone injure Harbhajan? :spy

Ojha should.:p
He is doing way too better than him and should come in team straightaway.

Also I'd agree with the 3 seamers-one spinner combination, that would help India more and toss will be a crucial factor in both the matches.

Great point mate, was thinking this myself last night. Lose the toss with 2 spinners on a greenish pitch and you are in trouble. There would be heaps of pressure on Zak and Ishant to break through. And remember it's only a 2 Test series, so a mistake in the first Test could cost you the whole series. So 3 seamers might be the go for India with that in mind. Also, I remember Sreesanth bowling REALLY well at the Gabba last tour on a greenish, seaming deck in an ODI so if the pitch remains green, he might do very well.

Media is saying Bollinger's fitness is in doubt but got a feeling he will be in the side anyway. But if now it will be good seeing how George goes.
