AUSTRALIA vs ENGLAND
At Perth
The Ashes
3rd Test, Day 5

It was going to be one exciting finish to this match with Australia 180/6 chasing 294 for victory and a 2-0 lead in the series. It was all up to Callum Ferguson, Nathan Hauritz and the rest of the bowlers to do the job though. Tremlett would be looking to add to his 3 wickets yesterday to get England over the line to level up the series. Australia got through England's early spell as Ferguson brought up his fifty to keep the Aussies in with a good shot. They nearly got through the first hour unscathed but Hauritz was caught on the crease by Tremlett and hit on the pad, the decision not out. Strauss decided to review it though and it was just hitting the top of middle and the decision was overturned, Hauritz out for 31 off 93 balls, Australia needing another 55 runs to win. Bollinger then scored some crucial runs before he too was dismissed by Tremlett, fending at one outside off stump straight to Pietersen in the gully for 14, as the game was now going right down to the wire with England needing 2 wickets, Australia needing 27 runs, but they did have Ferguson still at the crease, now on 92*.

Australia then moved the game further in their favour with Ferguson bringing up his century with 2 boundaries off the next over to now need less than 20 runs to win. Hazlewood was set to stay as he batted out a maiden from Tremlett who was on fire with 5 wickets to his name. Ferguson then hit a lively drive back past the bowler for 4 to move the Aussies closer. Hazlewood hit a boundary afterwards, Australia now only needing 8 to win. Anderson got a beautiful delivery to him though, Hazlewood trying to defend it but getting the edge through to Prior and the English were right back in it. George got off the mark first ball but Ferguson couldn't retain the strike for the next over and George stole the strike yet again for the next 2 overs to move within 5 off the English total by lunch but George would have the strike after tea, with Ferguson up the other end on 106*.

The ball was given to paceman, Steven Finn after the lunch break with figures of 1/41 beforehand. The first ball was a good ball nipping back in getting George in front. A huge appeal from England and the umpire gave it out. George immediately reviewed it though and hotspot showed an inside edge and the decision was reversed and Australia was still in it. The next ball was another good ball on the stumps and George played down nicely on it as it squirted out into the offside and a dot ball. George would have been kicking himself though when he edged a perfect Finn ball just wide of second slip where Strauss dived away and took a blinder of a catch to remove Peter George for 3 and England won by 5 runs, Ferguson finishing 106* and he would have also been annoyed for giving George so much of the strike.

A great match of cricket which had everything. The Man of the Match Award was going to be a tough one to award with Hauritz taking 10 wickets, Tremlett taking 5 wickets in the second innings to get England over the line, Finn taking 5 wickets in the first innings, Strauss, Trott, Collingwood, Khawaja and Ferguson scoring centuries but it was awarded to Nathan Hauritz for his bowling performances of 6/93 and 4/43 and scoring 31 with the bat to nearly get Australia over the line. Anyway, I hope you will join us for the fourth test and hopefully it is just as good as this time. Goodbye for now.

Clarke Ruled Out For Boxing Day Test

2ekqadu.jpg

22 December, 2010

Australian batsman, Michael Clarke has been ruled out of the boxing day test in Melbourne with a knee injury. The Australian skipper, Simon Katich said, "The injury isn't a serious one but we would rather be safe than sorry and given Clarke the chance to rest from this game. He'll be fine for the final test in Sydney though". Western Australian captain, Marcus North is the likely candidate to take his spot in the side but Steven Smith also has the chance to break into the squad although it is more likely that North will play. England will go into the boxing day test without any injury worries and after their win in Perth, it is likely they will stay unchanged.

Ouch , thats going to hurt the Australians and only going to help the English

Looking foward to the next update

It's a bit of a shame a few things have happened for him. I presumed it's not serious, but subsequently he had aggravated the injury. It would be nice to give the opportunity to a younger member of the squad.

It's been a while since I checked in here.

A great game there though, England's three pace bowlers were very impressive in Australia's second innings.

You've made quite a few chances to Australia's team, Ferguson, Hazlewood, and George. :p

haha, yeah. I think it's more interesting watching how the young players go. I feel like changing to ICC but it wouldn't work too well. I might when ICC 11 comes out if it has series stats.

That was a great game of cricket! And the final catch looked amazing! KIU and GL!

AUSTRALIA vs ENGLAND
At Melbourne
The Ashes
4th Test, Day 1

The third test was a thrilling match with England just coming out on top thanks to some terrific fourth innings bowling from Chris Tremlett. That game had everything. What would this game bring though? Surely some more excitement. The conditions aren't great though. It's very overcast and rain could be a problem for the first 2 or 3 days although the forecast says it should dry up for Day's 4 and 5. The pitch is a pretty hard one. The ball should come onto the bat well and the bowlers will have to do well to restrict the runs. Andrew Strauss has won the toss and decided to have a bat first after it brought them a win in the last test. No changes predictably for the English side after a solid performance all-round while Australia made a couple of changes, Marcus North coming in for the injured Michael Clarke while Mitchell Johnson comes in for Peter George who struggled in the last test. Let's go down to the middle now where Strauss and Pietersen will face Australia's new ball attack, with Doug Bollinger to bowl the first over. Here were the lineups.

Strauss nearly had a second duck in a row as he edged Bollinger straight through 4th slip second ball but it ran away for a boundary. Johnson opened up from the other end and he only conceded 1 run. Pietersen wasn't hanging around though as he took a huge swing at Bollinger, the ball going flying over the square leg boundary for 6. Watson was brought on early to try to contain the English openers but he dropped a bit too short to Pietersen who said 'Thank you very much', pulling him away for 6. Hauritz got taken to as well, going for 6 boundaries in 3 overs and was predictably taken off. Pietersen's innings came to an end though as Pietersen edged Bollinger straight into the safe hands of Marcus North at first slip. Johnson hadn't done much in his 5 overs earlier in the morning but a beautiful inswinging yorker to the right hander gave Trott no chance as he was caught plumb in front of the wicket. Strauss brought up his fifty a few overs later off Johnson with a nice cut shot through backward point for 4. He didn't last much longer though as Bollinger got him trapped in front. Strauss pondered for a moment as to whether he should review it but it looked pretty close so he just walked off, hawkeye showing it to just being hit in line so Strauss made the correct decision. Collingwood started with a bang though hitting 3 boundaries in his first 4 balls and another boundary in the final over of the session as England went into the lunch break at 145/3, Collingwood and Bell both on 16 not out.

The players came back on the field after lunch with the rain threatening and the first sprinkles dropped after the first over of the session. It came down harder the next over and although the umpires waited a few overs for it to stop, it wasn't stopping so a rain delay was called after 34.3 overs with the score 159/3. The rain kept on coming down though and it took another 2 hours before the players finally got back on the field, at 3:45 pm. The umpires decided an extended final session would be called with tea having been called early. Collingwood continued well after the break though hitting boundaries with ease as he worked his way into the 40's. The rain had started to come back though and it looked like the game would be stopping yet again so Collingwood hit 2 boundaries in an over to move to 51 not out before play was halted yet again after the next ball at 194/3, Collingwood 51* off 47 balls and Bell prodding along on 30* off 59. The rain kept coming and going but wouldn't stay away and at 5:45 pm, the umpires called it a day. Let's just hope the rain would stay away for tomorrow though. Here was the scorecard at the end of Day 1.

Collingwood played Nicely for his Fifty while Rain Caused Delays

tbh, with cricsim, you can do the rating so there's quick fifties and slower rate innings which balances out well to a good RR (In this case a bit high but around 3.5-4 is good) or you can do it so the results are realistic but there are too many draws because teams are going at a RR of 2-2.5.

So to get it to go faster you improve both lots of averages (say batting averages of about 50, bowling averages of about 15) and for a slower pace you drop the averages (batting 30, bowling 30)?

Is that how you do it?

The last test match was a thriller, brilliant performance from England in the end, to win the test match. Only complain I have, Haurtiz man of the match? :p

Yeah, my batting averages are between 45 and 57 for my batsman (45 for Haddin, 57 for Hussey) and the bowling averages are actually really low (around 5)

Normally I play with averages of around 40-45 for the best batsman and 25 for the best bowlers and normally you get realistic scores but at really slow rates. I played with the averages for ages though trying to get the most realistic results. Cause the higher the batting average, the higher rate at which they score but you need to balance the averages so they are not scoring centuries every game so you need to put the bowling averages pretty low.
