Awaiting comment from Trickstar...

That's not something they would have a say in. I'm pretty sure there are some existing posts from a while back on the TMG/Trickstar thing. We were aware that they had left a whole load of unpaid creditors and a bad taste in the mouth while reforming. I think Ross had posted about it too.

How much you think has AC13 going to impact on trickstar? in terms of job wise and finance, where do they stand?

I think they're in big trouble. As Ross said probably not the top tier but certainly the majority of the staff.

It's a big loss for cricket gaming......... They were clearly on the right path with IC10 just had to tweaked and get online working and remove donut from the pitch.

Competition is always good, DBC14 has to survive otherwise it's a goodbye to the cricket gaming for long long time.

My guess is the team employed by Trickstar bit off more than they could chew!!

I remember Audiogenic's Graham Gooch Cricket which I beta tested, they had a hell of a time with the Amiga version release date was July 1991 appeared June 1993 and was still full of bugs it was only when they released Lara 96 that the game was sorted to a more playable version but by then the Amiga was coming to and end!!

Fegan I believe was involved with AC2009 & IC2010 million dollar question is... was it the same team that did AC2013 and the new technology did for them or a whole new team altogether? I guess we'll never know and I would be surprised if we ever saw another trickstar cricket game! One thing that does surprise me though is HB studios that did the EA series have been quiet for 6 years now, surely it's time for them to re-enter the arena!

For now though we should all get behind DBC14 and Ross should get the bloody thing out lol :cheers

I don't think it was the Engine at all. Basic competence, really.

I really wonder where the money went - see virtually none of it in the game.

@barmy, are only logged-in ip addresses logged, or you see it for guest visits?

We see it for both but we know that 505 and Trickstar (and Big Ant) employees read these forums as we've been told they do.

The question for me is how did memory leak issues on the console builds result in such a buggy and unplayable PC build. My information is that the, working, fielding system was replaced in July with the current one.

DBC loks to be a very good game, so if it gets the sales it deserves it comes down to whether potential competitors either think they have the market sewn up or if they think the market is big enough to support competition.

But at least it's been demonstrated that a license heavy, substandard release is not acceptable. In the medium/long term that may end up being a positive.

Could possibly see a scenario where you get DBC doing biannual (say even years, 14,16,18 etc., with a competitor product doing 17,19 etc. so it wouldn't be head to head as such...

And we're still not any closer to knowing why they even bothered with the Steam release - that is what intrigues me most.

  • Was it basically testing the waters to see what the reaction would be? (hard to believe this one)
  • Contractual obligations?
  • Greed?

Combination of 1 and 3. As I've said before I don't believe there was any contractual obligation.

Surely Unity can't be that bad that they can't even get the basic of cricket correctly. It is just poorly programmed game and there is too much randomization, more than what they hoped for.

to get the game working on randomization was their biggest failure and they were unable to achieve that from day 1.

In terms of money i seriously don't know what they did.

Yeah, that game looked pretty cheap in the end did'nt it? auto fielding and all... but what a gaming fiasco lol hope this is never allowed to happen again.

DBC14 will survive, it's knocking on the door!!

It's a good question, and gives the lie to the line about not meeting our quality expectations in the statement today. I thought it was a pretty evasive, self-serving statement and they seem to have got off pretty lightly here with several posts congratulating them on apologising...

My money is on a bit of water testing and not greed so much as financial damage limitation.

Ross would know way more than me but the contractual obligations thing doesn't ring true to me - surely the contract would say multi platform, retail etc. so steam/pc only wouldn't meet that?

My top questions would be:
1. Why was the fielding system changed? When it was clear it wasn't working why didn't you roll back?
2. How did console problems result in an unplayable PC release?
3. How did the feature list shrink rather than grow in the extra time you were given?

If true that is the weirdest thing to come of this... WTF? Why?!

Just because people aren't logged in it doesn't mean they're not visiting.

@srk121 - Steve Mander Jones left Trickstar in May I believe.

Of course both Chief and Fagin will be on here all the time, maybe even on here as we speak, but Chief wouldn't have bothered logging in after the 22nd simply to make it look like he'd 'legitimately' disappeared and to save himself from people calling him out saying, "we know you're online!".

As he made clear when he visited before he's had nothing to do with the game since May.
@BD - the fielding system is definite different to the one I saw at Lord's and now we know why. As to why it was changed I imagine it was to "improve" it.

But actually all it does to me is confirm he knew what an utter crock this was from the get go
