Bangladesh in Australia Aug-Sept 2008

Natwest 100,87 v SA and the T20 50 have all come after long intervals. He is resting on his past laurels which is not good for him.
he's their best ever player at scoring hundreds, but probably one of the worst starters.

Siddons has warned Ashraful about his poor batting form. Looks like the time has come for Ashraful go back and play for Dhaka in Domestic Cricket.

Finally Aus won 3-0,it was going to happen, anyone could predict, but in the last match, when BD were in first 15 overs, they had chance,if they could have controlled their aggression, just see though few overs, they could have gone closer to target,if not win.

Aus werent TOO GOOD, trust me. But BD was TOO stupid to give it away. 20 overs left, and they are all out!! If Sakib didnt get out in wrong time, and tamim stayed there till the end then we would have gotten closer or win it.

But if you didnt watch the game, but came this morning and checked the score then you will feel, Aus was too good. But not really. You should have seen how Aussies batted, and how tamim batted. If you had few more Tamim to blow that kiss he blew last night...

its always a "IF" for banladesh :(

Cricket isn't an entirely physical game, far from it. If Bangladesh's poor decision making led them to fail, they can't disassociate themselves from it and Australia were indeed too good. The Australians themselves played better when the series was on the line than in the final game.

To be honest, I was actually disappointed with the performance of the Australian's yesterday. 198 against a weak Bangladesh side is really poor and we need to brush up our running skills in particular. Three out of the five wickets were run outs for us and they were quick, fit young Aussie's too. The bowling was once again scrappy also and needs working on.... Mitchell Johnson is especially poor, they were either pushed down the leg side and flicked away for one's and two's or they were wild and wide so the Bangladesh side could cart him over the top for boundaries. All in all we play terribly and didn't deserve to win yesterday.

That's the risk with Johnson, one game he can be great the next hes all over the place. Lucky for him there isn't anyone really putting their hand up. Clark is great on these sort of pitches but on those flat ones I do wonder. Bracken himself was expensive this series and also has the knack for going for runs at times in his past. Which really only leaves Lee as a bowler I would trust in our lineup atm.

I agree about Mitchell Johnson. I have discussed him alot across many different forums, and my opinion has not changed on him at all since the day I first saw him bowl. He is a great one day bowler, and deserves to keep a spot there as far as I'm concerned. But when it comes to test, he cannot bowl consistently well for 5 days. He bowls either on the batsmens legs, which can easily be flicked away or wide on the off side, which can be cut or driven through the covers. And with Ashley Noffke and Doug Bollinger, we have much better alternatives for Test matches, so we should hurry up and use them.

Australia's bowlers this season should be this in my opinion:

Test:
Lee
Bollinger
Clark
A spinner or Noffke

ODI:

Lee
Johnson
Bracken
Clark, Noffke or a spinner

Left arm bowler who can bowl 150+ and swing the ball , hes an exciting prospect for Aussie cricket. He has the talent to be something special but hes just struggling a bit with consistency. Maybe he doesn't deserve a spot in the test team but I hope we persist with him for atleast little bit longer.

Hes lost his swing since his 4 fer in India a few years ago. If he had his swing back he would certainly be a more threatening bowler. As you mention his accuracy is just too inconsistent, hes worth keeping in the ODI side for now but hes going to have a fight on his hands with Tait and Clark. Test we have Bollinger who gets swing at a decent pace, I'd have him over Johnson in Tests.

I think that was just last year ? Last year he was swinging the ball both ways , well atleast in the One Day format of the game. I guess its something to do with his wrist action and from all reports he is working hard with Troy Cooley on that. Hopefully he can rediscover it pretty quickly. His natural angle across the RH is his strength and he will take lot of wickets if he can just get one or two to come back in to the RH. But you are right , without the swing he is pretty harmless in test cricket even if he can bowl fast.

Bollinger is in great form so I guess he should come in if Mitch can't get it right soon.

I disagree with it. I don't think Aussies were poor with the bat. Bangladesh is definitely weak and poor side but they have shown good consistency with the bowling, it just means we are improving and one day our batting will be as consistent as our current bowling.

Let him enjoy his life, his staying with the team is not so effective. We can do better without him if Ashraful remembers his responsibilities.

No Bracken?

Oops, I forgot him. He is included now.

He is great for Australian Cricket, but needs an extra season or two in the Sheffield Shield. He could easily be Australia's best bowler in 5 years time.

I think he is referring to when Johnson picked up 4/11 a while ago.
