Whenever there was talk about Jadeja's batting ability, the "3 triple centuries" would invariably find its way into the discussion. And I always thought that it was never a true measure of how good can he bat.

But the past 18 months have shown me how wrong I was. His 50s have become consistent and that's way more than what is expected given the position he bats at, though of late promoting him ahead of the likes of Saha and Ashwin has certainly raised his confidence.

So suffice to say, I'm happy that my impressions about him were wrong and they are certainly taking a well deserved u-turn.

Those useful runs down the order have added a new dimension to India's batting prowess.
About 5-6 years ago I always used think why don't we bat Jadeja in the middle order and I came to know the reason why we didn't seeing few of his mediocre innings. But today when he is batting well at 6 I feel I used to be right about his abilities as a batsman. And in domestic Jadeja has been a proper no.5 over the years. Finally it's good that he has matured as a batsman now.

I was literally feeling for Jadeja when we lost in the WC semi-final. I think the last 12 months before the WC cost us big time and that is why we failed to win it. But anyways let us be optimistic and hope Jadeja's career reaches it peak and we can see many more innings like today.

India should play always 3 seamers + 2 spinners unless the pitch is a massive turner. A normal pitch aiding spin does not warrant a third spinner.

M Agarwal
R Sharma
C Pujara
V Kohli
A Rahane
W Saha
R Jadeja
R Ashwin
I Sharma
M Shami
U Yadav

And if in case India has to play a third spinner, I'll play Ishant ahead of Umesh everyday until Ishant is injured. Ishant to me, is the 2nd leader of the test pace attack after Bumrah and dropping him for Umesh is absurd to me. Ishant can bowl in any condition and I consider him to be superior in terms of control than Umesh. And Ishant's handy batting (its more reliable than Umesh's batting) gives him all the edge.

It now seems clear that the likes of Vihari and Pandya have almost no chance to sneak into the test XI barring injuries.

Same for LOI. Hardik Pandya is a 4th seamer. 3 seamers, Jadeja and a wrist spinner. But no one will listen to me. :lol

Very strange declaration. There's plenty of time and no weather interruptions expected. Should have battes till lunch or until we got bowled out, whichever were to happen first.

I don't mind this declaration. Kohli just wants to finish the match early so that they get enough rest before the 2nd Test and can prepare in a better way to face the pink ball. Anyhow Bangladesh are going down in this match it seems I don't see a miracle to happen from here.

Shami somehow bowls a lot better in the 2nd innings as opposed to the first and it's been the case in every match that he has played for India. He looks a lot energetic while bowling in the 2nd innings. Is it something to do with the mindset ?

Seeing the result of this match I am not really surprised. Although Bangladesh is inexperienced so they are bound to struggle a bit and on top of that they have lost 2 of their important players in Shakib Al Hasan and Tamim Iqbal but Indian side has been on some red hot form in the longer format. It has been really tough to beat them especially at home. But I won't be surprised if our batting would be right on the back foot in the pink ball Test as we have noticed that the Indian batsman does struggle against the lateral movement and the swing. The Day & Night Test is supposed to have both of it and that is what makes this series interesting. I am just excited for the next Test match and it would be actually interesting to see how India does well in conditions that can challenge them. And finally this is something that is new so definitely a step towards success of Test Cricket in India.

I wanted Virat should declared after Sir Jadeja's 100 because we knew defeating Bangladesh is not hard and we had enough time
We should also give respect and other players fulfill their milestones

I have seen many ruthless captains like Graeme Smith declared at Ab de Villiers 279* or something and Steve Smith declared before his teammate was 260-270 and Ganguly in Tendulkar 249*,90s

How a ruthless captain Ganguly declared when Tendulkar at 90s I cant understand
I know its team game but still we should respect individual milestones

It think they need more time to prepare for Day & Night Test and therefore they tried to finish the match as early as possible. And it does make sense because we aren't used to playing with the Pink Ball.

This is not a clear reason for sacrificing someones milestone. Also can you comment about other cases about ABD,Tendulkar?

I can't say about something that I haven't seen or I am not aware. And individual milestone isn't as important as the result of the match. It wasn't as if Jadeja was short on confidence with his batting so it doesn't make sense that whether he scores a 100 or a 60-odd.

I would imagine that Shami is a lot more effective on a worn out pitch due to his unique style of bowling stump to stump targeting the cracks and relying on erratic seam movement. This in turn would set up a positive feedback cycle wherein he finds himself more effective in the second innings and so turns up to be more motivated for the same.

Yesterday when I saw his run-up I felt this is some real fast bowling but he certainly got a lot tired at the end of the Day maybe because he bowled some long spells Yesterday to get the batsman out as early as possible.

The Bangladesh side rather looks unprepared for the D/N Test. This is seriously not done from a team that is looking to improve and become a team that could compete with stronger teams and win matches. They had about a week to look on the things that didn't go right in the First Test and prepare for this match. They should show a little more resistance.
