Saha has been absolutely brilliant in this Test .. keeping against that late swing is really difficult and he has been flawless

When other batsman were struggling with the Pink-ball Kohli was playing some fabulous cover-drives and he was timing them extremely well. This is greatness redefined from the great man himself. Excellent batting from him. Again that open stance of Pujara was a factor that I am concerned with right now.

The rejuvenation of Ishant Sharma has fantastic to watch he is getting better day by day and deserved every bit of applaud for his fifer. They call him Ishant 2.0 but since his county stint he has been a completely different bowler altogether just saw stat yesterday where his bowling has also got better in the last 3 years.

Umesh bowled with a good control too he has a tendency to be wayward but bowled really well to get those wickets.

Bangladeshi bowlers were all over the place there is still enough to trouble the batters if they can get the right channel but with Kohli settled on 55 India with some glorious cover drives and superb Straight (The shot of the match for me) its gonna be hard work for Bangladesh.

Also great to see crowd turning for the historic event and no better place then the Eden Gardens to host the first ever pink test and the roar when Shami was running in to bowl the first over is something which hardly happened for a fast bowler in India.

I think when you get bowled out on a total like 106 it is next to impossible to comeback especially on the pitch which we are playing which looks absolutely flat with not much help for the bowlers. The movement is because of the pink ball being used and not because of the pitch. The entire top order of Bangladesh got out playing some poor shots.

Th way Kohli hit those 4 consecutive boundaries in a row showed all the greatness he has in him. Another 200 up for the taking ?

We just have played a maiden over and Sunny G says "Maiden over .... Arre vah re vah!!!" (Wow, a maiden over !!!!)

Bangladesh really should've given some competition and made this an interesting one to watch. At the same time it's so good to see how well we've been playing recently, domination!

That was a superhuman effort from Taijul Islam to end a promising innings from Virat Kohli. That was a poor shot to a poor ball but anyways you can expect this from a well set batsman in a Test match when he has scored some good runs. But that catch was something very special. :clap:clap

This is just too easy at the moment and Boy that was a deadly bouncer from Ishant.

I was talking about this here in this forum few days back - Ishant Sharma is the unquestionable leader of our test pace attack in terms of experience and to me, he would be the first name after Bumrah, on the XI sheet when you start talking about the pace bowlers. It is actually time to stop using the word "improved" for him. Yes he had that period of inconsistency where his experience did not match his exploits. But he has reached a stage where he has gotten his head right (after that county stint) and he has ensured that he has not again fallen astray and also the huge competition in the pace attack has kept him on his toes and has only made him go farther and farther. And that is also showing in his batting (the few chances he gets) where he can stick it out there with the batters and give valuable contributions.

I feel Ishant Sharma had a lot of potential. His performances were certainly affected by the amount of injuries he had earlier. Before the England series last year I thought he would have a redemption like how Mitchell Johnson had back in 2013/14 Ashes. To some extent I think that series did help Ishant Sharma become a bowler that we wanted to see him become but to some extent he bowled defensively over there and got injured in the last match of the series. A Captain who has Ishant Sharma in his team he would have to use him smartly to get the best out of him and Kohli have done a great job in this area.

Coming on to his batting, I feel he has only 2 shots in his book- a forward defence and a conventional sweep stroke towards mid-wicket. But that doesn't actually mean he can be taken out easily. His defence is actually very strong and it's hard to get past it for most of the bowlers at times. If he can do this consistently then I think we would have a batsman that we would like to have batting at 8-9-10 for us and be a genuine bowler at the same time.

I think his batting has always been one of the better ones in terms of hanging around.

I am surprised you are noticing his bowling now. I think he was a finished article by the time MS handed over. He has just grown and grown from there. I think the main reason why we are finding all these guys so potent is because they're hunting as a pack. For too long, India have generally had one good fast bowler and a battery of spinners. I think now we finally have a pool of them. The best part is that because there are 5-6 of them now, they are always fresh and raring to go. My personal opinion is-

SA, Eng, NZ- Conditions for Bhuvi.
Sub-Continent- Umesh
Australia- Ishant, Saini and Bumrah along with Shami may be.

I think in general, Bumrah, Ishant and Shami are all conditions bowlers but Shami is extremely lazy and he needs to be kept fresh.

I would like to see Deepak Chahar groomed now. I think him and BK in places like England and NZ would be insane.

He wasn't. I clearly remember he was taken for cleaners in Australia by Johnson and Smith at the Gabba and he was actually bowling poor lines and lengths in the 2014-15 Australia tour. He was quite inconsistent until that tour. There were times when he looked ineffective. It was only that England series last year where he has been consistently delivering for the team

Shami is extremely lazy
Seriously ? I don't quite think so. He has been having some fitness issues in last few years. It is quite commendable that he has improved on it and is consistently with the team in last 3 years or so and did have an excellent World Cup. Tbh nobody works as hard as that guy. And with issues around his personal life he has been consistently delivering for the team is another factor to look at. The guy is mentally very strong.

Shami needs to change the seam with this Pink ball what usually works for him is the impeccable upright seam position which he bowls and with a bit of wear & tear and variations in pitch and wicket to wicket line becomes most lethal when it comes to bowl in the 2nd innings.

The way Ishant bowl was a perfect example of using the Pink ball which swings a whole lot compared to the coventional one.He used the cross seam position to great effect bowling those (7'O clock outswingers) - the angle of seam position w.r.t clock position and (5'O clock Inswingers) to pick wickets.Even the Bangladeshi bowlers used the cross seamers with the second new ball to trigger the Indian collapse.
