Australia Vs West Indies
Samsung Tri-Series - 12 September

Brett Lee has become the latest victim of the West Indies pace attack. The wicket comes just 1.2 over since the Symonds half century which gave the Australians hope of winning this match. Lee made the mistake of getting to far in front of his stumps and the drifting ball into leg stump had his trapped on the crease giving umpire Steve Bucknor no chose but to give him the trigger. The hope for the Australians is now quickly running out as they have just 2 wickets left now. Tino Best now has two well deserved wickets as he has bowled well all day and suddenly all his rewards are coming at once. Andrew Symonds is still in so there is a chance that the Australians can still get home in this one.

Jason Gillespie is the new batsman in for Australia. He?s not a natural hitter by nature and he probably doesn?t need to be in this situation as all he?ll need is a single to get down the non-strikers end to give Symonds the chance to hit the winning runs for his country. Daren Powell has bowled all his overs leaving Best and Edwards with 1 more over each after this one but the question is who will bowl the other over out of Morton and Bravo?

From the remaining 4 balls of the Best over the Australians managed a further 2 runs with new batsman Jason Gillespie getting off the mark and then narrowly avoiding being out LBW. The Windies launched another strong appeal by umpire Bucknor deemed this one to be going down leg side much to the relief of the Australians. Australia now required 18 runs from 18 balls to win.

It was then that Brian Lara called on Dwayne Bravo to bowl the 48th over in a bid to save the final over for Fidel Edwards. It appeared that the Australians would target Bravo?s medium?s in this over as the slower pace would be easier to hit then that of Best and Edwards. Symonds showed clear intentions going after Bravo but the all rounder was good enough to avoid any sort of damage from his single over going for just 3 runs. This left the equation at 15 runs from 12 balls to win.

Tino Best was to bowl the 49th over with the West Indies in front with fewer balls to bowl then runs needed. However the over got off to the worst possible start as Ramdin missed a sitter, the white leather went straight through his gloves and to the fence for a boundary. 4 byes were signaled much to the disappointment of Lara the West Indies skipper. Symonds managed a clean hit over the field towards the cover boundary but it just didn?t beat the fielder sprinting to cut it off. Two runs was the result. The Australians finished the over scoring 7 runs from it looking like a new side determined not to let any set back stop them from winning this match.

Who knows who is destined to win this match that will surly go down as one of the greats no matter the result. The lead and momentum have changed hands so frequently that the final six balls are almost impossible to pick. It may just come down to one mistake, one good ball or one clean shot through or over the field in this last over as Andrew Symonds faces up to Fidel Edwards for what will be an action packed final six balls.

49.1 - Edwards To Symonds, 4 Runs!
Edwards starts off the make or break over with a long hop. In this situation he just wasn?t good enough pitching the ball on length as Symonds clubbed it wide of long on beating the fielder to the fence. The Australians in the dressing room all has risen to their feet in anticipation of winning this match with that shot. 4 needed to win from 5 balls.

This chase is working out well for Australia with Symonds on strike for this last over in great form. It now looks as though Australia should win as long as Edwards doesn?t take a wicket. The Australians don?t need to take any risks now fewer runs required then balls remaining.

49.2 - Edwards To Symonds, No Run
Beautiful come back ball pitching outside off and seaming back to narrowly miss the woodwork. The ball snuck between bat and pad as Symonds came forward to drive down the ground. All of a sudden there is nothine between the sides as the Australians need 4 runs from 4 balls. The West Indies need 2 wickets.

It could have so easily been a wicket but instead it is just a dot ball. The pressure is still on at Kuala Lumpur as both teams are in need of a hero to step up and claim the match that is up for the taking. Will it be Symonds, Edwards or perhaps an effort in the field that wins the match for either Australia or the West Indies?

49.3 - Edwards To Symonds, 1 Run
Still Edwards cannot manage to get one up in the block hole as this one pitches on off and is driven by Symonds out of the middle past the bowler for a single to turn over the strike. Australia now needs 3 from 3 balls.

This next ball coming up may just be the one that decides the match. If Gillespie gets knocked over the McGrath will have to come out and score runs off his first ball, which isn?t easy for the best of batsmen. On the other hand if he gets the single or a better result then the Australians should win with Symonds getting the strike.

Yeah i was hoping for an easy match to start the story as i hadn't played the game for a long time before it. Obviously it didn't turn out that way.

49.4 - Edwards To Gillespie, 1 Run
Edwards misses a golden opportunity to get at Gillespie by drifting in to leg stump and allowing him to get a single to relieve the pressure. Andrew Symonds now has the strike once more and a chance to lead his country and get Australia over the line. Australia now requires 2 from 2 to win.

All the smart money must surly be on the Australians now wit such a strong position. The West Indies cannot win now by restricting runs as the situation favours the batting side. Edwards will need to knock over Symonds for the West Indies to claim an unlikely win here.

49.4 - Edwards To Symonds
Edwards has beaten the bat now giving the West Indies a real chance at victory?????.wait it?s a no ball. Edwards is shattered and the scores are level giving the West Indies no chance of victory and allowing the Australians 2 balls to hit the winning run with Symonds on strike. Fidel just couldn?t hack the pressure in this final over and has overstepped costing his team the match.

Brian Lara will be forced to bring men inside the circle now in a bid to stop Symonds from getting an easy single. The best result possible for the West Indies would be a draw now but it?s not likely???or is it?
