Would be a toss up between Sehwag and Gilchrist, just ahead of Afridi because of the consistency factor, but when on song he is the most dangerous batsman in the world

I think even in a global poll Afridi would come out top. Every voter will tend to go for their own country-man. Hence Sehwag for India, Gilly for Australia, etc. But the difference is that people all around the world know of Afridi's devastating hitting. They have all felt it. So if anyone is to choose a player not from their country, I believe they would choose Afridi over Sehwag.

very true mate.. thats what i was looking for here before i posted. it is a natural tendancy to become "more entertained" if you will, by a player from the team which has your support, but in saying that i think afridi should be held exempt from this simply because of exactly what sohummisra said in that other nations have feltt his destructiveness. it know it may sound a bit weird coming from a pakistani supporter to talk about natural tendancy's in selection and then go on to tip a pakistani player, but i really do feel afridi (on his day) is alone a devestating thought for bowlers either in the late stages of the first innings or early on in the second.

i remember the previous VB series last year, when afrdi came to the crease late in the second innings in a game against either australia or the west indies (cant remember :p ) and he just let all guns blaze. now, not only did the pakistani supporters in the crowd respond, but the vast majority of australians in the ground responded in an astonishing way, as if they were very impressed, which they obviously were.

i remember someone had compared sehwag to afrdi like 100 of 90 balls to 20 of 10 balls. lol, i agree with sehwags srike rate, but maybe 20 of FIVE balls would better suit afridi :p (interpret this as an exaggeration if you must, not my intention though. :)

Common guys lets talk a bit about other contenders as well these two guys Sehwag and Afridi are making headlines through out.

To me Gilchrist is the best overall player if we consider the work load he has to bare

gilchrist is ****, who cares about his workload, thats what australian cricket expects of you "champ". if he cant handle it get haddin. doesnt make him a good player just beacuse he smashes it and then fields for long time or vice versa. i dont see how that makes him entertaining either. u are a fool, u overlook players like afridi n sehwag, kluesener for a **** classless player lyk gilli.

I believe he didn't have one to leave in the first place :p ...
I have already flared him in two threads.....

For me Afridi, when he is at no. 7. Just pure entertainment...although I did not enjoy his recent 100.....

Has anyone spared a thought for Justin Kemp? I thought he was astonishingly brutal....

^^ lol...
yeah true zoraxdoom, kemp isnt too bad either.
top ones for me would be
1. shahid afridi
2. v.sehwag
3. l.kluesener

and no one should forget the good ol' days of west indian batting :p they just hit the ball without any regard to seam, spin, or anything like that, just hit hit hit! very entertaining!

Someone mentioned earlier about Jayasuriya's earlier batting. He certainly does not go after the bowlers like he used to. Those innings in the 96 world cup were just a joy to watch. SriLanka losing their first wicket at 70 when Kaluwitharana got out... for ZERO!!! It was incredible stuff.

Yeah, I remember that. The partnerships used to be grossly one-sided. The score would be 100 and Sanath would have around 80 from 40 while Kalu would have had like 15 from 10. That World Cup is probably one of the most important events in ODI cricket because it completely changed the face of the game.

All the players listed in this poll are good ODI players.

But my top 3 would be in the order of real life strike rate
1.Sahibzaha Mohammad Shahid Khan Afridi :107.43
2.Virender Sehwag :95.41
3Adam Craig Gilchrist :94.98
