Big Ant Studios post first look at Cricket game

I think the bigger thing than the visual impact of a half empty stadium is cool but the biggest effect is the loss of revenue that follows afterwards.
Sounds great, but what is there in place to give you a motivation not just to mash reset if you lose a match? Are there actions or perhaps even ground locations that would result in having a strong core supporter base of people who would come in regardless.

The sort of home town cricket team that you get somewhere like the New Zealand domestic level is very different to the state wide Australian teams or the dozens of different teams in Pakistan or India's domestic cricket - and I'd think that fan responses would be different based on the situation your team is in, not just field performance.

If you did have a model like that, it would be interesting if you could set your team in America or Canada - trying to develop a strong cricket team in a difficult market. The cricket equivalent of Greater Western Sydney.

In RLL2 we take into account if you are Toyota Cup or lower lower tier teams, we will do the same for Cricket. (As in there is a "core" supporter base.)

If you reset during Career mode then you're just cheating yourself - not much we can do about that.

That is a really good point. Having nuanced crowd numbers that reflect fan loyalty would be a great touch. I know you have dynamic weather effects but how good would it be to include dynamic crowds? For instance as a player nears their century there is a gentle influx of spectators.

We do the same in AFL and NRL for players reaching milestone games, 100, 200, 300 gamers will effect the crowd.

I hadn't thought about doing it during the day, so far we just look at the start of sessions... I will look into that - thanks for the idea :)

No worries :) I guess even if the crowd was recalculated at the end of sessions/days for test matches or drinks breaks/change of innings for ODI's it would be plausible to implement? I haven't played RLL2 (not a rugby fan) so I don't know how you worked it in that one.

...or a gentle early exodus as the BlackCaps inevitable collapse begins, leaving only the weird die-hard-flag-waving-guy in the stadium.

What I'm thinking of there is that if a downward spiral is too strong there's a higher need to make sure you win every game. Of course the hope is that the AI will be good enough so that is a problem in the first place, but how do you find the balance of what is a good win ratio for a team's support, and are there factors on the degree of volatility in your supporter base besides performance on field?

For the negative that losing a star player because you can't afford the big bucks, there should be a degree of having players who want to seize a chance even if it's above their nominal skill level.

use of move

Hey Ross....it's so nice to see that you are so involved with the community. One question which comes up in my mind is the use of PS3 move in your cricket.

Please tell us if you've implemented it in this game and if yes then plz let us know about its accuracy, experience etc...

We have implemented the move on TableTop Cricket but not as yet on the full Cricket game - unfortunately it might not be commercially viable.

We have a Move game coming in Jauary (totally not Cricket releated) - if Sony support us on it then maybe we can do something for Cricket as well.

How about the ball, does it wear from new to old.

Also how are you at the game when you have played it, are you
any good ?

Yeah and I'm assuming the pitches won't all look like one in the screenshot. Which very much resembles the green top from Hobart last year

Welcome to the site, Ross. First of all, I'm absolutely delighted by the prospect of a cricket game and I must say, the screenshots look good for a game that is still in progress. :) To be very frank, I no more really give a damn about graphics, I wont take names but there have been cricket games released in the past which have had pretty good graphics but horrible gameplay. Even if the graphics are just about average in this game but the gameplay is good, it will always be my first choice over a game with good graphics but poor gameplay.

Another reason why I wont actually give much importance to graphic is that, if the game will require very high system specs than many people wont be able to enjoy the game simply because of the prospect of buying a new graphic card and then again, the whole point about buying a graphic card just to basically play one game raises but I wont really talk about that because if the game is good then most of the people wont actually mind buying a graphic card. However, why is cricket07 so popular even till this date, 5 years from it's release? Simply because people with low system specs can play it too and obviously cricket07 is quite balanced, in terms of graphics and gameplay. Now, agreed it doesn't has the best gameplay EVER in a cricket game but with mods and all, it's still playable. Considering what else option do you have, as there has hardly been any good cricket game released in the last few years, in fact apart from AC09, there has been no cricket game that has been released (for pc platforms) that is.

I'd just like to wish good luck to the Big Ant for this game. As I mentioned before, my criteria for judging the game will be gameplay first and then graphics.

One more question Ross....I would like to know if there will be a helmet camera? It would be nice to play the cricket game with the feeling that you are actually there on the ground....and also I guess it will make the game a lil more tougher for pro gamers....
