Big Ant Studios post first look at Cricket game

The smaller TableTop Cricket game is for a different audience, I played the old felt top game witht he ball bearing and I thought it would be cool to bring that to PC/Xbox/PS3. There will be some crossover but I think it's a different audience. It's a lot cheaper too.

.

Played that to death as a kid and loved it, so will probably buy both versions, one for nostalgia and one for serious play :)

I noticed mud being a part of the visual details in RRL2...i guess thats being implemented in cricket too? Well though it would be more of green and less brown.

----------

I'll look that up that link now, thanks :)

Yeah, you're going to get a very different game, for example the bowling is timed on when you release the ball, it works well, requires a great degree of skill and is a lot of fun.

At this point we've made the hud minimal accross the board as a design, it isn't something that you can turn off and on.

Wow thats so cool! Its similar to what i had suggested in another thread for AC13. Here it is if you want to read about it...Teaching Cricket

Yeah, the mud isn't appropriate but it will be green (grass) and red (ball), the sweat can at least stay as is.

Thanks for the link, reading it now :)

Yeah but what happens for batsmen who dive into the crease? The pitch brings dirt onto the shirt?
Sure no worries :)

Mate this is great stuff. I know the gameplay is of primary importance, but these subtle details are what make legendary games. Cricketers are notorious lovers of nuance...

Cricket games are impossible to get right. I wish you guys good luck in getting the general build of the game correct so that future versions can just mainly be slight but important tweaks and additions, as in the Fifa and PES games.

The screenshot posted has players of a very lower height. I mean they look like 5'2" or 5'3". Shouldnt they be atleast 5'7", normally players are of that height.
Secondly, can we have different heights like in Fifa or PES games for players like a smaller height for Tendulkar and a bigger one for Morne Morkel or Steven Finn?
The player scaling hasn't been implemented yet, they will be different weights/heights/etc..

Thirdly, can we change the collar styles of the kits?
These kits are from different time periods. I think the guys might have been watching "Howzat" too much before it was taken :)

Fourthly, will this game feature subcontinent stadiums? And what about licensing?
I can't talk specifically about licensing at this time.

And any idea about the requirements of the game?
It will be PC/X360/PS3 (smaller versions for iOS/Android will appear later)

I was actually talking about PC requirements. BTW, how about if for e.g. a star player is played like Afridi in Pakistan matches, Dhoni/Tendulkar in India matches and etc; the stadium has more people if compared when these players are not playing?

----------

And how about crowd filling in when their team is winning or the crowd going when their team is losing?

----------

And BTW, try to have different type of crowds. For e.g. mostly shalwar kameez wearing crowd in Pakistan, UAE and t-shirts etc for most of the crowd in Australia, South Africa etc. Type of crowds can also depend on the teams playing the match. However, keep a percentage of the crowd generic which will appear in every stadia.

We have implemented the move on TableTop Cricket but not as yet on the full Cricket game - unfortunately it might not be commercially viable.

We have a Move game coming in Jauary (totally not Cricket releated) - if Sony support us on it then maybe we can do something for Cricket as well.

You could contact Sony India? Perhaps the biggest market for cricket games is India.

Why giving so much importance to crowds? Really?? Some people here :facepalm

Don't be so dismissive. If you'd been following the forums you would have realised that Ross isn't prepared to give away too much about the specific gameplay mechanics just yet. So we have been finding out as much as we can about the features he is prepared to reveal, features you wouldn't even know about if we hadn't asked.

+1.

Crowd is easily taken care of if its moddable.

I feel that this game could go down the drain if such unimportant things are given importance by some of the members. I hope Ross knows what's necessary and what's not for the game.

Really, I just want to ask all these people if they're going to just sit and watch the crowds during a match, or are they going to actually play it?

Population of crowds depends upon type of match is nice to know but don't you think the above suggestions of crowds wearing different clothes according to country and depending on availability of star player in that match affecting the crowds is too much to ask? There are many different questions you could ask about game which could directly/indirectly affects gameplay and all you got is what type of clothes crowds would wear?

You're right. I actually forgot to write that if it's easy to code then do it.

But, if it can be done; it should be done because it gives the game a whole new kind of realism. :thumbs

Really, there are a lot of things that are more needed than something that's hardly going to affect how you play. It would be better if gameplay is given more focus than how the hell the 'crowd' looks.

Just wanted to ask this:

How much focus are you planning to put on gameplay elements? Is it going to be a secondary thought, or is it a main priority thing?
