Blocker's Ashes Thread

Fantastic game...though England in a spot of bother. My highlight was your tactic of moving a fielder to Midwicket and getting Smith caught there two balls later.

Yes i bloody loved that.

tactical thinking is one of the best parts of bowling. Earlier with Smith, I had Mo on and set a silly mid-on whereas I always have a short-leg. Lo and behold he pops up a bat-pad straight to where short-leg would have been :(

one thing i think this game gets spot on, is that desperation when the ball stops swinging. you can suddenly feel that it's got easier for the AI. then you're thinking, what do I do...? anyone watching the stream yesterday will have noticed me going short quite a lot... i find this is a good tactic, but not much room for error.

Have you tried packing the offside field and bowling outside of off stump?

That's plan C if the chin music fails :)

On the topic of short stuff, are the back foot leaves still in the game? Ducking/swaying out of the way of deliveries. And do you ever pad-up to spinners? Is that even possible?

I think i really need to get this game, i feel like a kid peppering my parents with annoying questions right now.

yes the leaves are there, though i keep front-foot leaving. i need to get this better: i was really good at that in DBC17.

no idea about padding up not sure it's there.

you should definitely get this, it's awesome.

It might seem odd these days with the almost universal fascination with speed, razzmatazz, showboating and other such frippery that has gifted us the likes of T20, IPL, Big Bash ('Big Bash'...what were they thinking?) that the thing I'm most looking forward too when Ashes Cricket arrives on Steam is trying to battle through those tough patches with the ball where you need to contain runs but also get wickets and you're getting nothing off the pitch and the ball has lost its shine and stopped swinging. Watching your game, @blockerdave, has made me more excited for the PC release...it has also got me worried that in real life, the England team are rapidly going to run out of bowling options if they need to dig themselves out of a hole. Interesting to see how prophetic your playthrough becomes once the Ashes gets underway for real.

So much this. I love having time to play and pick shots and get in. Equally I love the challenge of toughing out times when the ball is doing bugger all.
