Former Australian coach John Buchanan has come up with a wacky idea to revamp 'boring' ODI cricket, suggesting that one-dayers be played in quarters of 25 overs each to make them as exciting as Twenty20 games.

"The current one-day format needs to be revamped. It's just my personal view, but you would think it needs to become more closely aligned with Twenty20. It could be broken into quarters with bonus points on offer to make the first innings more meaningful," Buchanan, who also supported the idea of playing day-night Tests, told 'Sun-Herald'.

"The current 50-over games are being played under a tired format," he added.

That's just stupid. How would that make it more exciting exactly? Unless each batsman can bat twice of course. But in that case, it's just two games of twenty/20 after each other. Seems a bit silly to me.

Ah god I'm sick of this fool. Buchanan stops coaching so he becomes a damn philosopher on the game and tries to revolutionalise (if that is a word :p) everything!

Dead set his retarded. Thats two or three 'comments' his made so far that just make him look like a fool.

He's said more in the few months after losing the coaching job then he did the whole time he was coach.

I'd second that.

Maybe he can join ICL where those people can try out such things.

Does anybody remember that I was the one who suggested this idea on this forum some time back and got abused? ;)

I've changed my mind since then. No amount of innovation can save ODI cricket. Long live T20 and Test Cricket. :D

Are you John Buchanan in disguise ? :p

They had this format in New Zealnd for the SuperMax Games.
The only difference being that the matches were 10/innings with a Super Max Zone wherein your score used to get doubled.

Stupid Idea, if you want 2 twenty20 games play 2 twenty20 games! If you don't like 50 over games, don't bloody watch them!

Yeah, quite stupid, I don't think he knows how much T20 are exciting, two of them in a row would kill it...
