Champions League Thread (the dawn of time - 2014)

I am a little worried, because we've got a good 0-0 away before in the knockout stages, only to let in a soft goal at home.
Yeah, two examples of that being Monaco in 98 and Madrid in 00. I think we've become a better European side since then, however yeah I do have that little niggle in the back of my mind, worrying about them getting an away goal.

But, we've got an excellent home record in the Champions League, and we beat Milan last year at home as Joe says, with Vidic and Rio out. Yeah, Ronaldo's interview was Cantona-esque, "I missed, but I will score in Manchester":p. Gotta love him:D

I just hope Ronaldo doesn't end up trying too hard, he should just play his natural game and chances are he'll have at least one chance. I'm confident we can put a couple past Barca, but I think they'll score as well. We're in for a very, very nervous (read typical Man Utd later stages European) night!

A shock ruling from UEFA has made United's job next Tuesday next to impossible. UEFA, in an effort to improve basic footballing skills among young players, have implemented the Missed Penalty Quotient for the second leg at Old Trafford. This is a complicated formula consisting of...

*The square root of Rio's new contract
*Average monthly receipts from the nearest chippy to Rooney's house
*Drag co-efficient of Ronaldo's greasy kid stuff
*Pi, and
*The average decibel reading of Fergie's latest half-time rant

Calculating these factors...let's see, add one, carry the two...hmmm, erm...there we go! As a result of Ronaldo's errant spot-kick, United must win the second leg by...

(wait for it)

37-0. Well, good luck with that...

:clap

well manutd haven't been playin that well recently with draws against middlesbrough, blackburn and barca and than a loss against chelski...so i wouldn't be surprised to see the scored end at 1-1 with barca goin through...tbh they should have put the match to rest in the 1st leg with the possesion they had (73%)...

chelski vs pool is pretty even for me but that lack of concentration by mr rise has given chelski a beautiful oppurtunity to advance...a precious precious away goal for em and practically a loss for pool after all the hard work they had done conserving that lead...tbh i can see this one goin to pen with score of 0-0 or possibly 1-1 and pool winning on pens...

only 1-1 will take to penalties (after extra time)....as a 0-0 result will take chelsea through on away goals.

I am going for a 2-1 win for us.

If we go out, we can thank the referee from the first leg, we should've had at least one, possibly two more penalties. I think we've got enough to beat Barca though.

All about Vida and Rooneys fitness now, Vidic's injury is weird, it's just about whether he feels comfortable playing with it and won't play any differently. Rooney had his hip problem before i'm fairly sure so i think he'll be alright but you never know with him, he's had a lot of bad luck. He was still able to score with it and whilst he was playing we weren't going to lose.

Ferguson - legend:D:D He's up for this. Check out the last minute on this video of today's press conference.

"we're sitting here right now with two games left, a semi final tomorrow, a home game on Saturday, and a game against Wigan away,

DISASTER":p

Perfect comedy timing, having seen that, I've got all the faith in the world in him that we can win the league and win tomorrow.

EDIT: Forgot to post a link, sorry:p.

I saw that press conference, it really made me laugh!! Sir Alex is a legend, you're right there and he has a sense of humour as well!

So much for everyone in the press saying our season would now fall to bits! Thanks to the superb Paul Scholes, we're off to Moscow, bring on Chelski for a CL rematch! I've no doubt we'll win the league now, the team will be on such a high after this.

After nine years, it's time for us to win the CL again and beating our main title rival (Chelsea) or our most bitter rival (Liverpool) will make it even sweeter.

Follow, Follow, Follow, because United are goin to Moscow, there'll be thousands of reds, and we'll be pissed out our heads, because United are goin to Moscow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

:D:D:D:D::D:D:D:D:D:D

What a night, outstanding, extra special atmosphere, one of the best at OT for a while and what a goal to settle it! He scores goals galore, he scores goals, Paul Scholes, he scores goals!:D

I don't know what else to say, Tevez was immense, chased every ball, covered every inch of grass. Rio and Brown were fantastic at the back!:D

Once more...

Follow, Follow, Follow, because United are goin to Moscow, there'll be thousands of reds, and we'll be pissed out our heads, because United are goin to Moscow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

honestly i thought that chelsea had the prem in the bag after their 2-1 win but now after watching the horrific team spirirt chelsea had and the disgraceful behaviour I think Man U can do it. They are one of those sides that always have the capability and despite destroying ARSENALS :( hopes i personally would bet money on them playing LIVERPOOL :p in the final and winning to secure both the Champions League and the pemiership in a season were Arsenal deserved at least 2 trophies:(

good luck liverpool tonight and good luck MAN U in the final

Rooney is better than Ronaldo!!

Yet again, Ronaldo doesn't do it in a big game.

Utd deserved it. They may not have been as good as Barca going forward but their defence was immaculate. Barca couldn't pass it through so they had to try and cross it and Utd dealt with that easily.

4 players showed up for Barca; Deco, Xavi, Toure (who is their best mid) and Messi (who was fantastic).

Thats nonsense about the big games, he played really well for a start, he played a key part in the goal and considering how isolated he was, he was very good as he's been against you and Liverpool. The way united play in big games is never going to allow him to shine like he can.

I did go Phil :D I was about to come on here and say how amazing we are when my dad pulled up and said happy late birthday! Was amazing, i was in the upper tier of the stretty and it was an amazing atmosphere although I didn't have a scarf to swing round to Viva Ronaldo :( Was absolutely knackered at school today because we were in the pub for hours.

We defended well, 2 clean sheets against Barca without Vidic is a great performance.

Oh and
WHAT A GOAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

United are off to Moscow, I've now got to look at tickets, I've asked my mum and stepdad not to buy me a car and just send me to Moscow instead :D

Oh and David Gill has justcome on ssn saying how good we are and how much he loved it, what a twat he can go suck glazers cock and choke on it.
