Champions League Thread (the dawn of time - 2014)

Dull performance, missed the first half because I got in an argument with some georgies in the pub but looked like we should have had some penos. Tons of chances, no goals, not fussed, it's all about Sunday. Told you we needed a midfielder phillis.

well i knew kiev weren't a pushover but we seriously should have scored a goal in the first half which we couldn't...than we were sagna was harshly adjudged to have fouled their player and gave away a pen, which was coolly put away...but they did deserve the point which they gained from a fantastic cross by SIR THEO which adabeyor made a mess of but was smashed home by gallas...man porto aren't gonna be easy either and we are gonna have to up our game a lot to go through thus group

I thought United played well once Ronaldo came on. Nani looked good also, he's very similar to Ronaldo, great on the ball, good pace, decent crosser, powerful shot, looks a good talent. United-Chelsea's going to be worth watching, going to be a great game.

Also, what has happened to Darren Fletcher? He's suddenly turned brilliant, he was one of the few good United players in the 1st half. Fergies managed to transform him into a Scholes-esque player. He bombs forwards, makes late runs into the box, and he scores goals. Give him another season and he could be fantastic.

How poor a commentator is Alan Smith? He's worse than Alan Shearer when it comes to spouting the same over-used dead in the ground cliches.

'They've got to inject a bit more pace'
'They're lacking penetration'
'They're trying to walk it in'

OMG, you say this every match. Oh for an Andy Gray who can actually analyse the play.

Oh, and that wasn't a pen.
And I don't like Kiev's striker (forgotten his name already)
Oh and Gallas is a legend at getting important goals.
Oh, and a draw's not bad in Ukraine.
Oh and I'm hoping Porto beat everyone except us.

All Andy Gray says these days is pretty much just "GERRRRRRRARRRRRDDDD! DROP YER PANTS SON! DROP YOUR PANTS!"

I think Joe called it right when he said dull. Not a great performance, atmosphere not great, Ronaldo quickened the pace of our attacks when he came on. Both games 0-0, really just need to forget about it.

He's been decent this season and has improved from what a shocking player he was 3 or 4 years back. However, funnily enough, I actually thought this was his worst performance of the season so far, he gave the ball away a few times.

I sang Viva Ronaldo like quite a few there tonight, contraversial, his name got cheered and booed when it was read out, the same when he came on. The reaction was more positive than negative. It's a difficult one, he is a nob, however he's our nob and as long as he puts in the performances in the shirt then I guess its easier to accept. Viva Ronaldo was like the anthem to the second half of last season anyway.;)

We don't need a midfielder Joe, Carrick will be back in October, Scholes is back now, Hargreaves is fit, so is Anderson-son-son and Fletcher's improving.

Will, agree on Alan Smith, however, no one beats Andy Gray in the worst punditry stakes. Even worse in the normal commentating area, Alan Green. Must be something about the name;).

Good to have Ronaldo back, he looks lively, sharp and I don't think the injury has permanently affected him, which is good news. We should've won, we had two clear penalties denied. I thought the team were great in the second half, it was a real Red siege on the Villareal goal. We deserved to win, as Fergie said, another day we'd have scored four or five. Doesn't really matter though, no-one else won or even scored in our group, so it's like all the games didn't happen.

How many chances did we miss? But got to admit their GK was brilliant.

Ramos' return in defence (or Salgado's absence rather) made a massive difference at the back and I thought BATE did reasonably well on the attack themselves.

Oh, and wont AC Milan be regretting selling Gila to La Viola??? Two brilliant headers last night. I reckon they'll have a better season that they did last time.

Celtic and Aolburg (spelling??) are hardly going to cause any problems. Good result for the visitors though. Manure and Villarreal to go through it easily from the group.

Probably true, although Celtic have developed an annoying habit of tripping us up in recent years.

Wouldn't underestimate Celtic mate, got through the groups in the last two years in difficult groups.

I thought United played well once Ronaldo came on. Nani looked good also, he's very similar to Ronaldo in early years, not so great on the ball, good pace, terrible crosser, powerful and inaccurate shot, looks a good talent in 5 years. United-Chelsea's going to be worth watching, going to be a great game.

Edited some stuff Dan
