Well done SA, their side might not looking flashy but the team spirit is always there. Great to see Ferguson strike gold in this format, hasn't really produced an innings like that in this format. Dan Harris is going great guns with the ball, turning into a handy all rounder for SA.

Good batting by SA, helped out by some poor catching. Interesting that they made the ruthless changes to the bowling, can't say it hurt, but considering KKR made a decent enough chase, application in the field might have been the bigger difference. KKR played okay, but they made costly mistakes for which they were heavily punished in furious crescendo by Ferguson and Christian.

I guess perhaps in a broader sense that is the Achilles heel for IPL sides. With the big bucks they like to lure in players who can bat and bowl. Now someone like Aaron O'Brien can in fact bat and bowl a little, but not enough that an IPL side would take a lot of interest. However, his fielding skill is as high as any of KKR's players and they ended up on the wrong end of that.

It's not so much about weird intangible stuff like 'team spirit', but just those little one-percenters. I hate to call it x-factor, a term so overused that it is non-specific beyond meaning, but it's those skills and qualities that are beyond the obvious, the stuff that a side looking to glean the best crop doesn't consider, but a side that just has to work with what it's got relies upon.

These IPL sides are pretty good aren't they?

Haha. As you can see from my previous post, the IPL sides's win% is worse than the teams from AUS, RSA and WI who have only 2, 2, 1 participants in the main tournament respectively. IMO, the IPL doesn't deserve anymore than 2 representatives for the Champions League. After all, they have more losses (17) than wins (16) so far in the tournament's history.

Thats a ridiculous record really, the IPL teams should win pretty much every game they play. They get the advantage of playing in home conditions plus their sides get 4 overseas players, even 5 for one team. Also their overseas players tend to be the superstars whereas the other teams like SA and Cobras for example have guys like Adil Rashid and Owais Shah.

The organisers are pretty lucky in the fact they might get at least a couple of IPL teams qualifying because they need to play each other!

:lol:lol:lolIPL sides clearly have no clue. The West Indies are slowly building towards world domination.:thumbs

I have barely watched any of this tournament, but I must say seeing a bit of the ends of games and the way the spectators and players react irks me a little bit. I see people in the crowd praying and stuff and then the players look like they've just won the world cup when they win a game. If only they had this kind of passion for test cricket but unfortunately money rules..

DA Warner, SR Watson, DLR Smith?, SM Katich*, SPD Smith, BJ Rohrer, MC Henriques, SNJ O'Keefe, MA Starc, PJ Cummins, SR Clark

Still no Hughes, would have had him in place for Henriques as we need to stabilize that batting lineup.

Yeah, don't really know why they wouldn't chuck Hughes in there. Don't even need Henriques at all with Watson and Smith as 5th and 6th bowler.

Seems Watson isn't being used for his bowling but Smith should be enough especially given how inconsistent the batting has been for NSW.

Its interesting - the different ways Trinidad device to lose a game that's well and truly in their hands.

You really have to question Ganga's captaincy. Having only one player out on in front of square on the leg side for the 19th over of a Twenty20? It's just madness.
