Commonwealth Bank Series Feb-Mar 2011/12

By the look on the Sri Lankan's faces and their reaction to the win it looks like they just won the world cup or made the world cup final. It's only a meaningless tri-series after which they've played 8 games, far too many. The only valuable prize would be the additional prize money.

It's been a good series though.

argh kapugedera is back

He is a good player,
Just didn't had some luck, that's all

Well,
It is the best tri series,
and not meaningless

Thisara Perera ruled out but should get Maharoof back.
McKay back to the ground where he made his mark in this form.

He's just the opposite, he's had a hundred chances. He has the remarkable distinction of playing 10+ innings as a specialist batsman for a full member against the weaker one day teams for no scores of 50. It may seem a bit contrived, but it describes how hard he's been carried for no payoffs, not even a consolation prize. He's that sort of talented player that the establishment decides is going to be a hero before he actually develops.

Yeah, wow. How has he played 87 ODI's with numbers like those..?

And the Sri Lankans have qualified. Great match last night, Malinga was on fire and Kulsakara bowled well.

Great fielding too, I'm happy for SL, they deserve it and they really wanted to win.

Totally agree. A decent inning once in a blue moon and he was playing another 10 matches and failing again and again. I hope this is only a temporary move since he isn't in the Asia cup squad. He scored two centuries in the premier league and then had a bunch of single digit scores. There are more deserving guys than him in domestic circuit ATM.

It was a great win last night. Mahela was exceptional as captain. Batsmen lost there way in the latter part of the inning but thank to Sanga, Chandimal and Thirimanne we got a ok-ish score. And crowd was amazing.

Amazing? It was incredible,
I think, more than 90% of the crowd were SL Supporters.

Kapu got a Averege of 39+ in FC Cricket,
That's decent, Not very good
I wonder when will they play Bhanuka, He is a hell of a talent
Averaging over 59 in First Class Cricket and Strike Rate of Just under 98:thumb:D
His batting style and Technique is similar to Adam Gilcrist

kapu is a waste of space, sri lankans do often need a bit of a settling in period to international cricket, their domestic structure is a world apart in standard but the board are usually good at identifying who merits this settling in period.

kapu has not, and they do get it wrong. I spent the last 5 years getting told chamara silva would eventually become jayawardena's successor. that worked out.

he needs to go back to domestic cricket and start from scratch, not getting called up again every time he makes a couple of good scores.

Yeah it has been pretty good, but still too many games for my liking. Should be 3 vs each team at most I think. They could have cut these last 3 preliminary games out. Just getting some major cricket drain at present, and it doesn't help when the season is ending with my least favourite format.

At least the selections have been interesting. More to come today. There's Lee vs Hilfy vs McKay vs Pattinson for 3 spots. I think Pattinson should stay, for starters he can bat a bit and for 2nd he seems to have the most consistent line of the 4 of them. That's very useful in the first 10 and bowling PP when batsmen aren't quite so willing to take risks. Toss up between Hilf and McKay to miss out for me because Hilfy's been only average vs SL thus far, he's more in the Indian batsmen's heads.

Oh and then Clarke has to come back in. You'd think Watson and the 2 Husseys are safe, so it's Warner vs Christian vs Forrest to be dropped. Each has plusses and minusses: Warner deserves a rest on form, but is the most talented. Christian's in good form, but is possibly wasted with Watson bowling decently, and Forrest is probably the lowest on the pecking order, but has a 100 vs SL this series.

Warner seemed to be a step slow in the field on Friday - I thought he might be carrying a niggle, so if I were a betting man I say he gets rested. We'll see...

Christian showed last match that his bowling is still handy even with Watson. Definitely between Forrest and Warner, given Forrest last 2 knocks I got a feeling the selectors will have enough excuse to keep their golden boy and keep Channel 9 happy.

and the rain arrives to completely fearsome tweak up our good start. Can't wait to see how D/L screws us this time.
