Commonwealth Bank Series Feb-Mar 2011/12

^Internationally White has been doing well? When was his last good game for Aus? I remember a very fast 80-odd he made vs India in an ODI at the end of 2010, and since then he's been in terrible form. The 10/11 summer ODIs he was struggling big time, he stunk up the World Cup, his IPL was poor too. I'd be struggling to identify shots that he's middled in the last 1.5 years

Watching Bailey bat it made be very nervous he could become another michael clarke part two flop t20 selection.

If he struggles in the next t20 and two games in the caribbean since the selectors must not be afraid to drop him before the world cup, since he would mess up the balance of the top 7 - if he stays.

And yet Australia almost won a T20 World Cup with Clarke at #3. And Clarke's only the best T20I captain ever...(Best T20I captaincy records) Or maybe it was because Nannes was in the team back then? :D

Anyway, I'm playing devil's advocate a bit here, as I don't really like forcing a specialist captain into an XI like Bailey or Clarke were, but I do think it's a bit of a myth that every player in your T20 side has to be able to clear the ropes effortlessly. If Australia were 5 down after 12 overs instead of 2, then a Bailey type player is going to be more valuable. Arguably the guy who didn't do his job the other night was Travis Birt, who bogged the innings down in overs 6-10 and if Wade hadn't hit out well after that, then Aus would have squandered their good start.

I'd also like to see a more flexible order eg. a lower order hitter come in if he fancies one of the middle over bowlers and there are plenty of wickets in hand.

Yeah, me either :facepalm Bowlers are allowed to invent new balls (carrom, doosra), so why can't batsmen invent new shots? I wonder if people were complaining back when Prince Ranji came up with the leg glance? Probably, but they were left in the past. Also the wrong-un should be banned because it's unfair to the batsman.

This is utter crap ! There are no rules in restricting batsmen to hit a new shot. Inventing new deliveries differ from a new shot. It's sad some people cannot figure that out. And since when is the switch hit a new shot?

Loving the muppets suggesting things in the comments thread. Some corkers.

Plenty of clever chaps suggesting "think of the chldren?!?" As in what happens when in club level cricket right handed batsmen start taking guards as a leftie and switching mid run-up to take out LBW and have a vacant off-side field...

Err, I think anyone would just stop their run-up, and the skipper would just set himself a field for it. Too many people trying to make too much out of nothing. Not to mention the people who seem to have failed to notice the actual rules that get mentioned loads.

KP did it to to Murali in a test match, no one seemed to care then haha

they're just lapping up attention. bottom line: bowling is not directly comparable to batting.

It's really bizarre how it coming back as an issue like nobody ever heard of it. It's not even the first switch hit Warner has played to Ashwin.

It's such an old issue, that the rules were changed and clarified to account for it. If even the ICC recognised, digested, and dealt with it. Then it's clearly old news.

Certainly explains why the batsmen wasn't happy when I ran up and lobbed a bat at him from 22 yards.

PM's XI match rained out, fair bit of bad weather up the east coast to say the least, though at least there aren't any matches in Brisbane or Sydney for a couple of weeks.

Why does the T20 n ODI are always scheduled during rainy days/nights. Same thing happened during the Natwest series!

Ridiculous debate really. I see no problems in batsmen going with the switch hit. Orthodox cricketers or orthodox people should stop watching such formats of the game ,if they are not going to like it.
Again, switch -bowling- I would really like to see. Though Sohail Tanvir came very close to it when he bowled with his wrong foot.

In Aus it's just that it's always rainy around Sydney and Brisbane in late summer. Melbourne is fine for tonight's game.

One thing is certain - both teams will outscore England's previous test innings and Pakistan's current one.

Was hoping Birt would get another go, so we have 3 more T20I before the WC, very little leeway to make your mark.
