Commonwealth Bank Series Feb-Mar 2011/12

@adi - Kohli is a certainty in the ODI XI. There is no way in the world he is fighting for a spot with Raina. Its Rohit Sharma who will fight for that spot with Raina (and I will go for Raina in the ODI's because when he clicks, he clicks big and is a risk worth taking in ODI's and also his fielding is livewire and he along with Rohit will make India look a lot better on the field). My XI would be this

Sachin
Sehwag
Gambhir
Kohli
Raina
Dhoni
Jadeja
Ashwin
Zaheer
Praveen
Yadav

We dont need four seamers anyway in the team. So I would pick on Jadeja to play as many games and would draft Irfan in only if one of the three pacers need rest or rotation

PM 11 team

Brad Haddin (Captain) NSW
Peter Forrest (VC) QLD
Wes Robinson WA
Mitchell Marsh WA
Adam Voges WA
Kurtis Patterson NSW
Dean Solway ACT
Nathan Coulter-Nile WA
Ben Cutting QLD
Michael Nesser QLD
Nathan Lyon SA

I like the look of the side, McDermott unlucky to miss out although maybe he is in the T20I side.

I don't think Sehwag should play, he has struggled in these conditions and going back to when Gayle came, there will be too much pressure against our bowling lineup.

Sehwag us that sort of guy whom they can't move till he fails horribly for a consistent period (he is getting close there in tests overseas). His recent double ton in ODI's should easily play him lot of series. You just hope he clicks for India's sake

Hope we compete this series. The only thing lacking whether Team agrees or not is competition. 2 back to back debacles in away series is really shameful. One advantage here we have is fresh legs and new players coming into the side which should hopefully improve the morale.

My XI would be

Sachin Tendulkar
Virender Sehwag
Gautam Gambhir
Virat Kohli
Rohit Sharma
Suresh Raina
MS Dhoni
R Ashwin
Praveen Kumar
Zaheer Khan
Umesh Yadav

I see no point in playing Ravindra Jadeja get the Sharma guy he was brilliant in last ODI series in 2008 and he deserves some chance tbh

My Playing XI keeping in mind WC 2015 shud be

Tendulkar
Sehwag
Gambhir
Kohli
Rohit Sharma
Dhoni
Raina/Jadeja/Irfan(as per the pitch conditions)
Ashwin
Praveen
Zaheer
Yadav/Vinay Kumar

if Jadeja or Pathan doesn't play then, who will be the 5th bowler ?

sehwag/Kohli are not good enough in these conditions to bowl 10 overs of 5th bowler.

MY XI would be

Sehwag
Sachin
Gambhir
Kohli
Sharma
Dhoni
Jadeja/Pathan
Ashwin
Praveen
Zaheer
Yadav

if sehwag or gambhir fails continuously for 4-5 match, then india may be bring Raina in place of one of them and kohli will be move up the order.

Why is Sachin Tendulkar in a team that's planning for the 2015 World Cup? And I wonder if Sachin had scored his 100th century by now, whether he would have been sent home and rested? My cynical side says that he's only playing here because he/the selectors want his 100th to come vs Australia if possible, to cement his status as a legend. Better than against Bangladesh in the Asia Cup for example.

Anyway, my cynicism aside, I think India should be playing as many young players as possible in this series, because they need more exposure to overseas conditions.

sachin is selected for tri-series squad....so he would open....the lineup i told is for the tri-series.

My XI for WC 2015 would be

Sehwag
Gambhir
Kohli
Rohit Sharma
Yuvraj
Dhoni
Raina/Jadeja/Irfan(as per the pitch conditions)
Ashwin
Praveen
Zaheer
Yadav/Vinay Kumar

India will win this ODI series. There is enough quality in both the batting and the pace attack to do so. We will see a different unit in the ODIs, a fresher look to the side should help as well. To win the finals 2-1. Zaheer, Yadav, PK, Irfan for the allrounder`s slot and Ashwin for the lone spinner`s slot and we should have a decent enough bowling to complement Sehwag,Sachin, Gambhir, Kohli, Raina/Sharma and Dhoni. My XI would be this

Sachin
Sehwag
Sharma
Gambhir
Kohli/Raina
Dhoni
Irfan Pathan/R.Jadeja
Ashwin
Praveen Kumar
Zaheer
Yadav

I feel this side will click in the ODIs. For the first time, we have a decent looking bowling attack which should trouble the Aussies with the swing of PK and Zak along with the raw pace of Yadav.

Bold statement.

Add in Hilfy if Siddle is being picked. It would be last chance salon for both though, if they can't make it as ODI bowlers in the form they are in then they won't ever make it.

I always thought sidvicious had the tools to be a good limited overs bowlers, but i dont think hifly even in his current form would be a good limted overs bowler imo.

Still think his style of bowling would leak runs in that format and i'd rather him stay as a test specialist.

Its not about his 100th hundred. He would have played even if he had the 100th hundred in his pocket by now. Sachin says he still has the hunger for the game. I hope its the real reason. In fact, India dont really need him in ODI's. We are a pretty good team even without him in ODI's and we can afford to drop Sachin and play well. Guys like Kohli, Sharma and Raina are now big time ODI players and Yuvraj is always there around the corner and he is an ODI veteran. Having a batting lineup of Sehwag, Gambhir, Kohli, Yuvraj, Rohit, Raina and Dhoni in an ODI is pretty reassuring.

Irfan plays if the pitch helps the pacers and Jadeja plays if its a spin track or a batting track. India need 5 bowlers to be more effective. Irfan and Jadeja both are very useful with the bat, so we can utilise their bowling services.

The Sri Lankans have named their squad and Jayawardene is back as captain:
Mahela Jayawardene to lead Sri Lanka in Australia tri-series | Cricket News | Commonwealth Bank Series | ESPN Cricinfo

Mahela Jayawardene (capt), Angelo Mathews (vice-capt), Upul Tharanga, Tillakaratne Dilshan, Kumar Sangakkara (wk), Dinesh Chandimal (wk), Lahiru Thirimanne, Thisara Perera, Farveez Maharoof, Rangana Herath, Sachithra Senanayake, Lasith Malinga, Nuwan Kulasekera, Chanaka Welegedara, Dhammika Prasad
Stand by: Thilan Samaraweera

Only a couple of changes from the current squad vs SA. One of which was to drop Dilhara Fernando. He had an unhappy game vs SA a couple of weeks back, but I remember the way he bowled in that weird 3 match tour in 2010 here in Aus. Match was in Brisbane I think and Fernando was touching 150kph and bowling well. I understand why he's not here - he's always been a bit loose and bowled too many no balls, but if SL struggle for wickets on this tour then I think they'll miss him.

I think Sri Lanka this time are going to be no pushovers. I rate Jayawardena pretty well as captain, and also SL are coming off a very tough tour against South Africa. Both India and Australia have to remain on guard against Sri Lanka.

Good decision to bring back Mahela as captain.

Have they sorted out that pay thing? Got a bad feeling they will impact them no matter who they have as captain.
