Durham responded well to losing the toss on a wet pitch by playing sensibly and patiently. The opening partnership between Weston and Lewis was crucial and they managed to put on 168 before the loss of Weston for 89. The man that was most gutted though was his fellow opener who fell on 99 just one away from a cnetury. Carberry failed but Collingwood played a good innings of 72 before Voges hit an unbeaten 57. The final score was 377/4 when Paul Collingwood decided to declare. The Yorkshire bowlers bowled well but didn't have much luck. Matthew Hoggard was the best and picked up three of the four wickets. Tim Bresnan got the fourth while Rafique was impressively accurate and economical. What could Yorkshire do in response with the bat?
REPORT:
Yorkshire emphatically answered the questions asked by Durham by piling on the runs and eventually declaring on 613/5. The men that really produced for Yorkshire were England skipper Michael Vaughan who made 164 and Aussie Darren Lehmann who hit 158. They hit the bowlers everywhere and were supported by Sayers who made 53, McGrath who hit an impressive 97 and White who was 61 not out when the declaration came. Overall Yorkshire lead at this point by 236 with nearly a whole day left in the match.
As for the Durham bowling attack for some unknown reason Daniel Vettori didn't bowl one over and the bowlers had a lot of work to do. Onions picked up 2 wickets while Sidebottom, Harmison and Muchall picked up one apiece. They all bowled over 35 overs each. The task for Durham is to bat out the rest of the match and earn a draw a win is out of their reach.

Durham successfully held out for a draw despite losing a very early wicket. The man to go was Weston for 7 and it left Durham 13/1. However they didn't lose another wicket until near the end of the match and from then on they were safe. Lewis made another half century and hit 77 runs. Collingwood hit an unbeaten twelve but the star was Michael Carberry who made up for his failure in the first innings with a patient and resilient unbeaten 99. He must be annoyed that he couldn't quite reach his century but will take heart from his performance. Overall Durham batted well.
The Yorkshire bowlers found it hard second time around and managed to pick up two wickets. Hoggard took his tally to 4 in the match while Rafique got his first ever wicket for Yorkshire and was very economical once again. Overall the game deserved to be a draw.
The man of the match award went to Durham opener Lewis who scored two half centuries including an innings of 99 and 77. He deserved the award after playing superbly and confidently in the challenging conditions for batsmen. Overall both teams cancelled each other out and they deserved a share of the points.
