REPORT
Nottinghamshire proved that they made the correct decision when electing to bat by scoring 397/5 before declaring and challenging Surrey to hold out for a draw. Every batsman apart from Hussey made a score of over ten and Mark Butcher and Ealham made a century a piece with Fleming making 63. Overall the home side would be happy with their first innings and had to get into Surrey early with the ball.
Surrey worked hard with the ball but none of the bowlers got a bucket load of wickets. Mahmood managed 2 while Saggers, Salisbury and Sarwan got 1 wicket each. They all were fairly economical but the pitch didn't deteriorate as much as what was anticipated. They now had to do a good job with the bat.
REPORT
Surrey built a healthy lead over Nottinghamshire and proved they wewre no mugs with the bat by scoring a massive 569. The only man however to make a century was West Indian Ramnaresh Sarwan who was unfortunately run out for 108. Chanderpaul, Clarke and Mahmood each gave their support by scoring a half century each. It was now a question of weather the Surrey bowlers could win them the match with 79 overs left of the game.
The Nottinghamshire bowlers each bowled well and Harris managed to get 4 wickets although it took him 69 overs to do so. Ealham got 2 while Franks, Gallian and Patel each got 1. Overall it was hard work and this pitch was holding up well.
REPORT
Nottinghamshire showed their class as they easily batted out the 79 overs they were asked to do so. They managed to reach 198/2 by the end of the match with Gallian on 86 not out. Bicknell made 65 while Fleming was trapped lbw by Mahmood for 25. Overall they were happy with the draw at the end fo the match.
As for the Surrey bowlers they once again found it hard work and this time teh only man to take a wicket was Mahmood who took both of them. Saggers, Salisbury, Swann and Sarwan just didn't have any luck at all and Surrey had to settle for a draw.
The man of the match award went to Ealham of Nottinghamshire who proved he was a true all rounder by making a century and taking two wickets. He will be delighted with his contribution but overall both teams will have wanted the win on a dusty pitch which failed to help the bowlers.
