Anthony McGrath of Yorkshire won the toss and decided to field, an interesting decision considering the state of the pitch which is perfect for batting and would benefit for from having first use of it. The Batsmen should go for there shots as the pitch is hard and true and the ball will come onto the bat nicelly, expect some high scores here from both teams, The clouds are high overhead and are grey, its also warm, good conditions for swinging but the bowlers will still have a very tough time.

Division 1 Fixture:

Derbyshire Vs Yorkshire:
Day 1:
Lunch:

Derbyshire:
292/4

Bassano: 31*
Sutton: 8*

Derbyshire are flying high at lunch after smashing there way to a massive total at the lunch interval, helped allong the way by a Sahid Afridi Century and two half centurys by Hassan Adnan and Andrew Gait. Gait escaped with his wicket early on 17 as he edged through past the slips and keeper before Derbyshire reached the 50 for no wicket with Gait on 28 and Afridi on 24. Gait brought up his 50 in comfortable style with some fantastic shots played by it was Afridis turn to shine as after a 160 first wicket stand Yuvraj Singh clean bowled Gait for 58, a good strong knock. Afridi rushed shortly after to his first century of the season, assisted for a few balls by Di Venuto who failed to impress again as he was "run out" after clearly making his ground for 2. Hassan Adnan, always a strong prescence at the crease made an impressive 54 before falling to a fantastic ball by Gough, almost unplayable. Afridi finally goes a few overs before lunch as he is caught short of his ground after Bassano calls for a second that would have been safe except for some great fielding, dismissed for a fantasticly productive 120. Sutton is dropped on a low total after he lobbed dolly off the pads to square leg. If Derbyshire continiue to make this kind of progress they may well find themselves in a stroung position to enforce the follow on.

Bassano is the first to go shortly after play resumes, caught well short of his ground after trying to steal a quick single on 31, a big wicket for the visitors. Dumelow was the next to go in what lead to Derbyshires downfall, he was clean bowled by Darren Gough on just 7, Gough claimed his 3rd, another batsmen who looked good at the crease falls to his bowling as sutton plays straight at a ball which nipe back and takes his off stump and is dismissed for 32. Steve Selwood spent some productive time at the crease, making the same total as sutton before being caught by the wicket keeper off the bowling of Hoggard after trying to help the ball on its way to 3rd man. Graham Welch makes 31 before lobbing a slower ball by Hoggard to Micheal Lumb who takes the catch at long on and finally Kevin Dean is the last to go and end Derbyshires innings, he is caught by Fleming in the slips for 27 off the bowling of Silverwood.
