Story -- Full County Season -- Lancashire CCC -- [C2005] --

Good game, nice easy win for you there, hopefully a sign on things to come for the Lancs (apart from against Yorkshire of course! :D)

That was some win. Led by the captain once again, Lancashire have now made it two rather comprehensive wins in the new season.

And yes, one would have to be really brave to bet against the Lancashire Lightning from winning the twenty20 after the aggressive and attacking display shown here.

But tougher times lie ahead - you still havent played Warks!
Go the Bears!

Sixes League

This years Sixes League sponsored by Sky Sports will contain small alterations from last years, firstly the monthly awards have been done away with and an end of season award will be presented to the winner of each league (Totesport and Twenty20), also a trophy will be awarded to the player who hits the most sixes overall.

There is also a change to the running of the competition, previously it has been judged on a sixes hit to balls faced ratio, this year, in the event of a tie, the batsmen will be seperated by how many runs they have scored in each competition and overall. I believe this will make the competition fairer because the tailenders could hit two sixes from two balls then get out, wheras batters up the order work more systematically and they work harder for thier sixes.

Here are the standings so far:

Totesport National League 1:

Lords
Middlesex Crusaiders Vs Lancashire Lightning

-----------------------

cricket200520050714190415923id.png

Its a fine day here at Lords for the Totesport National League Division 1 game between Lancashire and Middlesex, Andrew Strauss and Mark Chilton meet in the middle for the toss, the coin goes up and the England opener calls heads, the coin lands heads up and Strauss chooses to bat first. A wise choice on this hard wicket.

Andrew Strauss: were going to have a bat, the wicket is hard and the outfield is fast so runs shouldnt be too hard to come by, the pitch generally slows up as the game progresses so it wont be comming onto the bat as hard in the second innings making it harder to get away, i think some big scores could be made but it is going to be harder to chase, we are looking at 250-260 on this pitch but the way Lancashire bowled last time they played it could be only 210-220, who knows.

Strauss and Chilton retreated to the dressing rooms to prepare. The two Middlesex openers have been in form recently, they won the last match against Nottinghamshire by 12 runs, not as convincingly as Lancashire but still a win nontheless. This match is shaping up to be a cracker.

The Teams:

Obviously Andrew Strauss, an England opener in both test cricket and one day internationals for some time now ill be one to watch, Scott Styris is another expreienced international player, New Zealand often call upon him to bowl some overs and to come in at around number 6 as a linch hitter.

Lancashire remain unchanged in personell, however Andrew Flintoff has been moved back to his primary position of no4 with Brad Hodge comming in at number three. Chapple retains his place after some good death bowling last time around and James Anderson will have his tail up as he looks to get back into the England team, he will be gunning for Strauss!

Totesport National League Division 1:

Lords
15 Overs
Middlesex Crusaiders Vs Lancashire Lightning

Middlesex: 116/2

E Smith: 19*
E Joyce: 9*

Big wicket of Strauss falls as Lancashire pile on the pressure!

---------------------------------------------

Muttiah Muralitharan has been called upon once again to make the difference and once again he has come good, this time collecting the big wicket of Strauss. Strauss had been positive up untill that point, scoring 3 fours and a siz in a knock of 23 from 30 balls. The England opener punished Cork and Anderson, sending them all over the place and finally hitting a big, big six off an Anderson bouncer. Muralitharan was brought into the attack and made an instant impression, dismissing Strauss in his second over, Strauss had difficulty with the leg stump line Murali was bowling, he played straight to one that didnt turn much and it slipped in between the bat and the pads to hit the top of leg stump. A soft dismissal for an internatonal batsmen but good variation by Murali.

Strauss swats a short one away for a big six.....

cricket200520050715204251989jd.png

....butis clean bowled by Murali just minutes later!

cricket200520050714202941391is.png

Joyce play Murali to the leg side

cricket200520050714203536458li.png

At this stage Middelsex arent going so well and will need to start scoring more quickly if they are to set a defendable total, The Lancashire bowling has been all over the place but has not yet been punished, Murali has bowled well and so has Hodge, they need to keep it tighter or Midllesex could be let back into the game, more wickets are needed, Murali did well to spin the new ball but it is scuffing the seam, meaning les for the seam bowlers. This match could go either way....
