Story -- Full County Season -- Lancashire CCC -- [C2005] --

Yea Hogg is a bit young for being under so much pressure and also Chapple is a better batsman and i wanted a very long batting order. Once again thanks for the feedback.

Snail Paced Glamorgan Keep Lancashires Seamers Out!

---------------------------------------------

Glamorgan are trailing off as they currently are going at 2.6 runs per over, this is laughable and if they are serious about winning the match they will need to score at least two boundaries per over from now on which at the moment doesn?t look likely. On the plus side they haven?t lost any wickets, probably due to the fact that they have defended everything, they didn?t really have a choice to tell the truth, tight lines from the Lancashire seamers have left little room to manoeuvre, however, once again the extras column has let the roses down, instead of being 25/0 Glamorgan are 39/0, that?s a big difference. There was a helmet change in the third over as Jimmy Anderson rocketed down a bouncer which hit Thomas flush on the helmet, he was knocked to the floor and had to rest for a few minutes but he had the last laugh as the ball bounced off his head and rolled to the rope for a rare boundary.

Thomas hammers one through the covers

Elliot swivels on one and knocks it away

cricket200520050710183355846vl.png

Other than that the lines the seamers have been bowling were immaculate, Flintoff and Cork have been swinging the ball into the left handers from over the wicket and have been to straight to drive but not straight enough to clip to the legside. Anderson and Chapple have been probing around the wicket and have been keeping the runs down.

Thomas gets in on the hooking act

Flintoff looks on as the ball races to the boundary

Glamorgan really need to up the pace to at least 5 an over, even then you would probably back Lancashire to chase the total down, the only thing they have going for them is the fact that they have wickets in hand but it?s a very dangerous game to play, if a few quick wickets fall then they could be in big trouble and its only a matter of time??

Hodge and Muralitharan should be entering the attack soon and the hard pitch could make them very hard to play, especially if the batsmen need to come down the wicket to up the run rate, the bounce could deceive them and bring stumpings into play, we will have to wait and see, another update in 15 overs time.

Still No Breakthrough For Lancashire As Elliot Romps To Half Century!

---------------------------------------------

Glamorgan have capitalised on the middle 15 overs of the match which was predominantly spin based with Muralitharan and Hodge bowling 5 overs each, those 10 overs combined went for 48 which works out at nearly 5 runs an over. The overall run rate has been boosted to 3.8 an over, that is still nowhere near enough but its a start and they have two estabalished batsmen at the crease due to the inability to take wickets on Lancashires part. Mark Chilton will be concerned if a wicket doesent fall soon because it will not only demoralise his bowlers but it will give Glamorgan liscence to hammer them around in the final few overs which is not needed.

Elliot delivery a crunching blow, hitting Chapple back over his head for six

Muralitharan didnt bowl badly, he was let down by fielders on the boundary, simple pickups to prevent the second run were allowed to slip underneath for four much too often, this was o the case with Hodge however, he didn?t produce enough pin and was hit straight back down the ground on many occasions. Murali was able to bowl the leg stump line because he got some purchase on the ball and got it to spin past the bat on some occasions, Hodge, a part time spinner by rights, wasn?t able to do that and then batsmen found it easy to middle it most of the time to mid on and mid off had no chance.

Hodge is driven straight back down the ground for four

A sweep against Murali

Lancashire still haven?t made that all important breakthrough but they don?t need to worry yet, although the batsmen at the crease are both in and scoring freely now. The seamers had no luck first time round and the middle 15 overs which the spinners occupied went for 78 runs but hopefully they will end with at least 4 as the slogging starts, Lancashire would have backed themsleves to chase a score of 130 plus so anything under is a bonus and anyting below 200 is great. Wait and see what happens when we come back with the end of innings update!!

End Of Innings
Lancashire Lightning Vs Glamorgan Dragons

Glamorgan: 186 All out after 44.5 overs

D Thomas: 7*

Glamorgan lose 10 wickets in the space of 72 runs as Lancashire look set for another victory thanks to their seamers!

---------------------------------------------

Glamorgan have allowed the match to slip further away from them than anyone dreamed, at 114/0 they set themselves up for a big slogfest 15 overs, what it turned out to be was 10 overs of wickets, James Anderson got the breakthrough and then shoen in his final three overs. Ian Thomas fell just after we left you last, Anderson fired in a yoker that was turned leg side in the air, it went straight down the throat of Mal Loye fielding at square leg. Elliot was the next to fall, a hopefull ball from Flintoff gave him something to hit, he didnt middle it and Anderson walked in from the boundary to take a dolly. Anderson then dismissed Powell in much the same way the next over expect this time it was Cork who took a diving catch from the boundary to send the batsman on his way.

Dominic Cork is elated as he takes a dolly on the boundary and the wickets start to tumble

cricket200520050712200959316fj.png

Jimmy struck again next over, this time the batsman tried to pull a bouncer and the ball went in the completely wrong direction and would have gone for a six if Cork handt been right underneath it at the time. Then Flintoff struck again to dismiss the dangerous Maynard, Cork again taking a wonderfull diving catch after comming in off the boundary, the batsman advancing down the wicket not catching it flush enough. Anderson claimed his fourth wicket with the last ball of his spell, sending Wallace on his way witout troubling the scorers, this time the man on strike drove it straight to Sutcliffe in the covers who took a good catch, the ball was travelling at some pace.

It fell to Muralitharan and Chapple to finish the job, a very gutsy descision by the captain as Chapple's first five overs went for more than 5 an over and Muralitharan could have been hit to all places, both bowlers performed though and took two wickets each, Muralis more important though as they were up the order. The first of these came in his first comeback over, the second ball, Robert Croft tried to flick him to the legside and the ball looped stright into Jimmy Anderson arms, the second when Kasprowikz tried a slog sweep and edged it high into the air, Cork came in from the boundary and collected well. Chapples wickets were both identical, two short deliverys cramped the batsmen fro room as they tried the six shots and both were caught by the same man.

Anderson takes the catch to give Murali his first wicket

Watch out umpire, Glamorgan are on the charge!

cricket200520050712201638175no.png

Lancashire bowled well despite the lack of staying power by the batsmen, they pressured Glamorgan and cramped them for room outside the of stump which made it hard for the batters to get the ball away, especially those down the order. This forced errors which were well taken in the field, as they say, catches win matches and those on the boundary held theirs today, they might not be so lucky next time. So at the moment Lancashire are poised to win the match requiring just under 5 an over which should be well within reach.

What are your thoughts on that score, i was pleased to have kept them so tight and those 10 wickets in the end were mental, very easy to pick up compared to the over 30 overs, next time id like to pick up more earlier because they might not go as slow as Glamorgan.

Well good bowling I must say. I dont think I have quite managed to pick up 10 wickets in 10 overs in any part of the match.

As far as the "slowness" of the CPU is concerned, that is a problem with the AI pacing in the ODIs. Gotta get used to it.

Hey, one question-when you play the Lancashire Lions, can shaun Briggs be in the lineup, so that both stories can intervene...:p...stupid suggestion, I know...
