Lancashire Steal 9 Wicket Win As Chilton Runs Riot!

-----------------------

The Lancashire opener unsurprisingly picked up the Man of The Match award as the Mark Chilton show continued into the second innings, he rampaged to another half century, this time his knock of 56 not out included 9 fours, no doubt that sort of form will be carried over into the next two matches which are Totesport League one dayer?s. He was joined at the crease for the most point by Ian Sutcliffe who scored 14 from 43 deliveries in a supporting roll. Chilton has scored a total of 199 runs so far in two innings and is yet to be dismissed, Lancashire fans will be hoping his rich veign of form will continue.

Chilton hammers through the covers for one of 9 fours

The onslaught continues as Sutcliffe hooks one over the vacant slip cordon

Somerset didn?t look like they were interested and there bowling was all over the place, wide balls were put away effortlessly by the in form Chilton and the boundaries were coming thick and fast for the right handed opener. The only wicket came from a run out, Sutcliffe called for the run and then shouted ?no? as he realised it wasn?t on, by the time he had turned around the bails were whipped off and he was forced to walk, it didn?t matter at that point, Chilton had already sewn it up.

Brad Hodge smiles as Chilton makes 50

Chilton shows the bat as Lancashire win comfortably in the end

So Lancashire have won their opening fixture in dramatic fashion and have also got their first win in the County Championship, next its two Totesport League matches, the first against Glamorgan who are a very good one day outfit, Expect fireworks with everyone keen to win the Sky Sports Sixes League which consists of two League tables, one for Totesport matches and one for Twenty20 matches. The word is that Andrew Flintoff will bat at number 3 for the Roses in the totesport and Twenty20 matches, what are your thoughts on this???

Totesport National League 1:

Old Trafford
Lancashire Lightning Vs Glamorgan Dragons

-----------------------

Mark Chilton and Robert Croft met in the middle for the toss, which the Lancashire Lightning won after the call of tails. Chilton chose to field and when questioned about it this is what he had to say;

Mark Chilton: We feel confident that we can restrict the Dragons to a assailable total which we wouldn?t need to struggle too much to reach, also I wanted our seamers to have first use of a hard wicket and try and extract some bounce early on, I don?t think it will change much and it looks a good batting surface is anything, a score of 230-240 if definitely gettable here.

With some big hitters in their squad and some tasty bowlers Lancashire will be looking to get on top of the opening batsmen and get some early wickets however they wont be worried if they don?t as this pitch is very batsman friendly, the ball will be coming onto the bat nicely and the boundaries aren?t mammoth. Expect fireworks early on as Flintoff has been put in to bat at number 3 so as to maximise his power and give him some time at the crease. We have already seean what Chilton can do with the bat and Sutcliffe is handy at number two in One Dayers.

Looking forward to this totesport league match. Lancashire will be on a high after that win over Somerset in the County Championship, and the way they did it by bowling out Somerset for just 81 in the 2nd innings.

A big thanks to dazza1974 for supplying the official stumps for the Frizzel County Championship, The Totesport National League and the Twenty20 Cup.
