Cricket Academy questions

If there's no DRS why wouldn't you want fielding team to know batsman nicked the ball? This only makes sense in case there's DRS and the fielding team will need to take a risk and make a decision whether to go for the DRS review or not.

You wouldn't want the fielding side to know whether the batsman has nicked the ball or not for we have manual appealing. There could be a scenario wherein the batsman nicks it, the bowling side doesn't pick that up and make a half hearted appeal, and the umpire turns down the appeal.
But then, there could be DRS. This is just one reason why they wouldn't want the bowling side to know if the batsman has nicked the ball.

Ross did imply in an earlier post in the thread that DRS exists in some form. Here's the post from Ross (post #42 on Pg. 3 in the thread)...

"The idea is that the batsman knows if he snicked it or not - we don't want the fielding side to absolutely know.

Afterwards the replays will clearly show what happened.
"

That doesnt imply that DRS is in the game. The fielding side not knowing for sure whether its an edge or not is for the manual appeal to come into effect. As of now, we (including Ross :p) are not sure whether DRS is there or not.

I am probably going to sound like an absolute idiot but will the players/teams that we create using Cricket Academy be able to be used on Xbox 360?

Ross said that the details will be announced later.

They are ready to go, as pretty much is the entire game, however we are going to just release the Cricket Academy player team creator/player editor/sharing at this stage. Without the game the rest of the options are not that useful (apart from you all knowing what we're up too! :) )

We will release updates to the Cricket Academy as we approach launch of the game.

In terms of platform support - stay tuned for announcements :)

Ross, if edging the ball would set the controller into vibration then does that mean every mishit causes the controller to vibrate? That would be cool. Instead of a timing meter we could judge the timing with the level of vibration.
I also wish bottom edges could cause vibration.

Don't think you'll find they have levels of vibration. They vibrate or they don't. I turn my vibrate function off at the settings menu on the dashboard so I'm not an expert. But im sure you couldn't have 3 or 4 different levels of vibration.

I think we have asked to many questions this month.:(
I also think ross is taking a break from us:eek:

Maybe he is sad about the aus team at the moment.:p
New feature ross, stupid coach mode.:D

Sorry, I meant duration. Bottom edges have a longer vibration than edges that are almost a tickle. That should be possible?

Manual appealing is for the umpire to give a decision and nothing to do with edges that fielding teams are aware of or not. Even if you get a big nick to wk you still will have to appeal for umpire to rule the batsman out.

Yes...agreed...but what I meant to say was that the reason that the fielding side not getting a clear indication (i.e. controller vibrating) does not mean that DRS is in.....that is just to make manual appeal system to make sense, as if the fielding side gets a clear indication everytime there is an edge, then what is the point of a manual appeal. The reason why they gave the batting side a clear indication of an edge was to give you, as the batter, the feeling of being scared when you nick it, waiting for the umpire to make the decision, just like in real cricket. That has nothing to do with DRS being in or out.

I can't see them doing that. If there has been a clear edge I'd expect the keeper to start celebrating automatically. Manual appeals, if they are in the game, will probably be reserved for LBWs.

More like arrogant aussie mode where you can act how you want thinking your untouchable.[/QUOTE]

Most of the folks will go for "manual appeal" in cases things look close anyways. The real impact to the gameplay would be with DRS, i.e. whether you back yourself enough to go for a review? If not "manual appeal" becomes just a button press after a close shave, be it a thin edge to wk or a LBW shout.
