Teams unveil provisional squads​

All the eight participating nations have unveiled their provisional squads for the cricket tournament set to be held at the 1904 Olympic Games in St Louis, Missouri. Netherlands have gone a step further to straightaway announcing their final XV, instead of weighing their options with preliminaries.

The lists include some interesting names such as the two former South African Test players Frederick Cook and Clement Johnson who will be representing the Netherlands and Ireland respectively; Charles Miller and Dolph Heinrichs, both predominantly football players set to turn out for the Mixed Team; Frederick Fane and Major Robert Poore who will play for Ireland, their country of birth.

Last but not least is the American duo of George Patterson and Walter Clark, both thought to have been retired. A comeback was quite plausible for Patterson who is only 35 years of age, but not so for Clark who had retired after America's 1896 triumph and is currently in his 47th year.

Cricket fixtures for the 1904 Olympic Games​

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) will be using the same tournament format as Paris 1900 for the cricket tournament at the 1904 Olympic Games. The only innovation being the introduction of a new 'playoff' system to determine the final standings at the end of the Games.

The introduction of playoffs was a result of the confusion caused in 1900 when Canada were originally given the Bronze medal, only to have it taken back and presented to the United States after protests compelled the IOC to schedule a last-minute Bronze playoff. Now with a proper system in place to determine who gets what, there shouldn't be any such problems this time.
