The South Africans were given a tough time by Bermuda's bowlers on a typically bowler-friendly Colombes wicket. None more so than by Gerald Conyers, who picked the wickets of Herbie Taylor and Fred Susskind among others on his way to a 4-wicket haul.

South Africa won by 69 runs

Man of the match: Sid Pegler (South Africa)

@CerealKiller @HawkAussie @Sodium

It was a bowler-friendly pitch and our batsmen batted really well to put up a good defendable total. A fantastic bowling by Sid Peglar to secure the match with 6 wickets under his belt.

A good win in the end.

Lineup rules

1) A proper wicket-keeper (:wk:/:wkb:) in your XI.
2) A minimum of 6 players marked to bowl.

Player rarities

In each squad, players have been marked with these icons to give you a fair idea of their playing skills and overall usefulness to your team.

:purpo: - Legend. Used for the players that are undoubtedly the best of the lot.
:goldo: - Gold. Used for players with a high level of consistency and ability to deliver during key moments.
:redo: - Ruby. Used for players that are extremely talented and can play in a way no one else can replicate.
:slvo: - Silver. Used for players that aren't as talented as their Gold/Ruby/Legend contemporaries, but still capable of holding their own against the best in business.
:blueo: - Sapphire/Crystal. Used for players that are halfway between Bronze and Silver. They are more likely to put in good performances than players from the Bronze category.
:bro: - Bronze. Used for players that are inexperienced or with a lower skill set compared to those from a higher category. They could either put in good performances or fail miserably.

Statistics

That was a good outing against India for us. Our three seamers did get the early breakthroughs but somewhere in the middle we lost the steam. We should have been ruthless and pinned them down. Our team should learn it now that we are close to the test status.

Given it is a lively wicket, I am tempted to get John in the side but I cannot drop a batsman because in case of close game, a batsman might make a difference. Small in at #6 for Hoad. Nunnes moves up a place.

We'll go with the same lineup. :)

The United States will go into their match with the British unchanged, though we know the all-too-likely result.

The Irish, also unchanged, should be a good shout to down the Windies

Tom_Lowry.jpg

For a while, Tom Lowry made New Zealand dream of doing the impossible by beating their Trans-Tasman rivals, the world's greatest Test side.

Clarrie+Grimmett+started+plating+cricket+at+a+time+when+there+was+a+complete+drought+of+spin+bowlers+in+the+world.jpg

That dream was shattered by his former countryman Clarrie Grimmett, who had shifted his allegiance to Australian cricket since the previous Olympics. Grimmett stayed clear of Lowry's brutal counter-attack and dismissed Ces Dacre, Cyril Allcott and Herb McGirr in the penultimate over of the match, leaving Arthur Mailey to finish it off in the final over by bowling over New Zealand's final wicket. The Australians emerged victorious by 18 runs to progress to the semi-finals.

Generally known for giving away his wicket upon reaching a hundred, Jack Hobbs decided to do otherwise today. That he was long overdue a century at the Olympics seemed but a distant memory. He became the first opener to carry his bat through an innings to score a century and also the first to touch 150. The Americans looked a thoroughly and completely battered bunch after being on the receiving end of such a ruthless innings.

Freddie Martin, Wilton St Hill and rather surprisingly Herman Griffith, were the only batsmen able to counter the demons of the Colombes wicket. Nobody else crossed 20 on the scorecard save for extras.

Ireland seemed down and out after Robert Fowler's dismissal, only to be unexpectedly revived by their last wicket pair who put up 29 runs in 29 balls.

But when the scores were level, Learie Constantine quite brilliantly ran out Gustavus Kelly in his follow through, while the batsman was attempting to complete the winning single. As a result, the match was tied. There was a great deal of confusion as to which team would progress to the semi-finals, with the usual fewer wickets lost tiebreaker rendered useless because of both teams having lost all their wickets during their respective innings.

Eventually, the officials decided to award the semi-final berth to the West Indies in lieu of their superior head to head record against Ireland. Both teams had met only once before in the Olympic Games in 1904, a match which the West Indies had won by a narrow 8-run margin.

Another low scoring game, another victory for the Argentines. Thanks to Clem Gibson's 5-wicket haul.

Jesam Peas! That is as close as it can get. Ireland should be proud of their effort. The decision to not field Hoad backfired miserably.
