Yea poor selection and some good bowling by broad won england the last test... that and some terrible batting by us. But you do remember the 5-0 last time england was in aus... dont get too cocky now

and yes i realise that warne had alot to do with that... we should have brought him out of retirement for that last test... he was keen for it lol

Seeing the recent performance for me it'll be India...They've won in NewZealand and even at home they've beaten England and Australia. In 2007 they won on English soil after a long time...So I think India will be number one..No Doubt....South Africa are also Close opponents to us...

Winning in New Zealand is nothing to sing home about. And even though India won 1-0 they hardly looked like the worlds best team. I still don't think India's bowling is that great tbh, Ishant Sharma was rather poor and Munaf Patel isn't going to trouble the likes of SA, Australia.

It is just not a matter of one series. India is performing quite well in test in recent time. Ya Bowling has been the weakest section in the Indian team.
According to me :-
1) South Africa
2) India
3) Sri lanka / Australia.

Yea I'm aware of that, but a better team would of put us away in the 3rd test for sure. India weren't poor in that test but Dhoni's captaincy left alot to be desired.

ishant sharma, zaheer and bhajji are the dependable lot.

then there are other "in and out" guys like RP Singh, Irfan,Munaf, sreesanth
etc that can do the job as well....

i wouldnt call BOWLING as a weak area...india is known for its quality spinners.....its the pacemen that let us down more often than not..but its always been there since the 90s...its nothing new..

though i must say sharma and zaheer have really raised the bar....

There was a series to be won, and since we have had a history of rarely winning series outside the subcontinent, Dhoni opted for the 'safety first' measure to ensure that the 'series win' is not lost. Dravid did the same against England in England in 2007 because we it was 20+ years back when we last won in England. I am sure that next time when we tour these countries, we would be more adventurous than how Dravid and Dhoni had been.

Zaheer and Ishant are a lethal combination in test matches. Ishant has been a very good test bowler, and Zaheer has been world class. Its the third seamer where we lack a reliable option. RP Singh is very bad when conditions arent helpful. Irfan has lost his swing, pace, everything. Sreesanth acts on the field more than he takes wickets, and Munaf Patel is one of the most laziest cricketers ever played for India and looks to just make up the numbers. We need a good third seamer to round it off. But we are going in the right direction.

I think South Africa is definately the better test side at the moment. Strong openers, good middle order batsmen, great keeper, terrific bowling attack. They don't have a real weakness.

India and SL still haven't won over here or SA yet so until they do that they shouldn't be classed as the number 1 side. Winning at home doesn't make you the number 1 team just a very good team at home. Even the great Aussie sides like the Waugh one in 01 lost in India.

SA definitely deserve the number 1 spot being the first team in ages to beat us at home.

what about being beaten at home?

If I am not wrong, the 5th day was washed away by rain?

The last session and a half was lost because of rain. But why get a lead of 650+ when you know it's going to rain. NZ ended up making 270 for 8 iirc.

More like he wanted to bump up his average, there was no need to get a lead of 650.

Dhoni did nothing new. Indian captains have been doing this for long time. Kumble and Dravid come to mind immediately.
