but can you prove wiki wrong..

"Darts is a variety of related games"
"darts is a traditional pub game"

Also chess has a governing body (World Chess Federation), and world championships, not sure about the rules.

Yes Chess does have a national governing body because it's a sport. Darts is a pub game yes, because it's played in pubs. Pool and Snooker are also pub games as well but all three of these games are still sports because they are played at professional levels.

Lol, that really proves your idiocy, Wikipedia cannot be used as factual evidence for anything. It's not an official encyclopedia, anyone can put articles on the site, and they often have mistakes.

Darts has world championships, and 2 major governing bodies, the PDC and the PDO, it's as much a sport as any other "pub" game. It takes magnificent levels of concentration to concentrate with the lights, the noise and the atmosphere inside the venues. Darts is a proper man's sport :p. Also, it takes a hell of alot of practise, Peter practises for at least 3 hours a day at home, luckily his wife is a pro darts player herself, which allows them to practise together, i have great respect for the top darts players, takes alot of talent to consistently hit that treble 20.

...is a very active sport.

Ok, i'll quit with the jokes now, no need to cause another argument.

There are some legends in darts, Phil Taylor, Barneveld and most notably Andy Fordham. It's good to see the big man back, after losing so much weight. He has a long way to go, but i think he can do it.

Is having a professional level one of the pre-determinates in deciding whether a game is to be classed as a sport?

yeah thanks for pointing out zimrahil.

Guys i respect you opinions and all but i asked if you couldnt start this kind of bickering but when someone starts the thread " Why Darts is not a sport" your free to write in there.

Anyway Phil "The Power Taylor" playing tonight wont be an easy match as hes againist the talented Micheal Van Gerwin i could see an upset tonight. Its nice to see Andy Formen back looking like a different guy now. Sid Waddels 30th Aniversary this week and is probually one of the best and funniest commentators in sport.

Quality match here between van der Voort and Klaasen. Such a quick-tempo throughout. 1-1 in the deciding set.

Yes certinaly Van der Voort was amazing with his 180s but Klaasen missed 2 many doubles. Good win for Lewis too and barney wasnt amazing but still won 3-0.

Note- Can a Mod Merge the too darts threads?

What a match that was, Peter lost 5-4 to the brilliant qualifier Kirk Shepherd, was 2-0 up in the deciding leg aswell. Was the most fantastic game of darts i've seen since Adrian Lewis's first impressive performance in the world championships 2 years ago. Really dissapointed that Peter lost, but tbh Shepherd was brilliant, will be cheering him on in the rest of the tournament now, shame he's gonna be knocked out by Taylor in the semis. James Wade is going to win the tournament, mark my words ;)

Phil Taylor 4-3 Alan Tabern was the best game of darts I have seen since the final last year.

Major kudos to Kirk Shepherd, he may be a complete thicko but he is a talented darts player. I dont think he'll beat John Part, but he has played a fantastic game in this tournament so far. I'd love to see him take the crown tommorow night, be a fantastic achievement for him, i dont think he'll be a 1 tournament wonder either, he'll go on to be big i think, unlike Jelle Klaasen lol.

Taylor was massively under-par for the whole tournament, deserved to go out. Most of the top players were below par though, Barney, Wade, Jenkins, Hamilton, all performed dissapointingly. Peter Manley was unlucky, just got beaten by the better man on the day, Shepherd played brilliantly, will be cheering him on tonight. I wouldnt mind if Part wins though, hes a really nice bloke, i've met him a couple of times, he looks quite intimidating, very tall and well built, but he's a really nice guy. This is the first game of darts that i;ve been truely looking forward to since the Taylor-Manley final from 2 years ago. Hopefully Shepherd will cause another upset :D
