Pura Cup ? Game 4
Victorian Bushrangers Vs New South Wales Blues
The MCG, Melbourne
29th November 2006

With just 4 balls to go and still 13 runs required a boundary is needed. My favourite slog shot since I was a kid has always been over mid on so I decided that anything pitched up and on the right line was going over there.

Any chance of a win is going out the window quickly now with two dot balls in a row from Nicholson in a good display of death bowling. There is only one option now and that is that this next ball must touch rope if the Bushrangers to have any chance of a win can they do it or is it all to late for the home team?

It?s simple now this ball must go to the boundary if any hope is to be kept alive of a late win for the top of the table Victorians. The Blues are just playing to stop us from taking maximum points away now as they cannot gain any points for this match and will remain on the bottom of the standings on 0 after stumps are called.

A six and a four are required now so it is predictable that Nicholson will try a yorker or maybe even a double bluff with a short ball. It?s all or nothing now with the odds of victory getting smaller by the minute thanks to good death bowling.

My departure means that Shane Harwood would need to hit this ball for six and hope it?s a no ball, which has a very small chance of happening. Two points are going to have to do from this match which is disappointing after we had worked so hard and scored so many runs in a small amount of time.

I went back in the pavilion not bothering to watch the last ball that is pretty much irrelevant to the match now as it is going to be a draw. The dressing room was quiet as all the boys knew that so close but yet so far isn?t good enough to take maximum points away.

Deservedly Matthew Nicholson was named man of the match as he played a huge role in getting his team into the drivers seat in the first innings and then got them to the draw when the chips were down in the second dig taking 7 wickets for the match. Our next match will be a good one as it is against the touring New Zealand one-day side in an exhibition match which acts as a warm up for them ahead of the VB series which isn?t far away in the Australia summer. The match will give the boys a chance to prove to the Australian selectors that they can hack it against quality opposition so im sure there will be nothing to fear going into that game?well except Shane Bond.

Oh crap.....Bondy awaits in our tour game against the Kiwis

Friday ? Team Meeting
3rd December 2006
10:00pm

It?s the day after our draw with the New South Wales Blues and seeing honour game went down to the wire and the boys wee pretty shattered about not coming away with the win after such a good effort the coach Greg Shipperd has decided to call all the boys together for a meeting to boot morale amongst the team.

Of course im not in the best spirit after failing to get the bat on ball required to win the game in the final over but Shippy was quick to pull out my spider graph from yesterdays knock of 51 including 3 straight sixes and describe to the boys that was exactly what we needed and although it didn?t get us the win it was a learning experience that you need to take control in a pressure situation. He went on to say that more of the boys need to take their opportunities like I did if we are going to beat top quality teams and finish highly this season.

He also mentioned that out tour game against New Zealand, which is coming up on Thursday the 7th, is an important one as far as our future goes in regards to reaching the highest level. Apparently there will be Australian selectors at the game keen to see how we adapt to playing an international team in the one-day form of the game. Personally I think we are a big chance against the kiwis in our tour game after they have come from being smashed in the test series against Australia. Our next training session will be on Tuesday at the Junction Oval.

Good stuff from both teams. Unlucky to be out at the end but a risk was needed if the Victorians weere going to win the game.

Sunday ? Training
5th December 2006
3:00pm

The training session didn?t start off to well with a group of ?senior players? as they call themselves these days showing up 15 minutes late to the session. Personally I find it an insult to the club that professional players show up late to such a high profile clubs training. When I showed up 20 minutes later the session began???

You have to hate the slackers that turn up late

Despite the unpleasant start the session went well with the boys keen to get all the necessary practice in before we come up against the kiwis in a few days time at the MCG in front of what is expected to be the biggest crowd that I have played in front of in my first class career so far.

The Junction is a beautiful site

After the session the team to take the field against the sheep lovers was announced and it doesn?t hold to many surprises apart from the usual best 11 in the Victorian squad.

Around The Grounds

A massive win for Queensland to start off the weeks results as they scrape home for a one wicket win. At one stage the Queenslander were against it with just 3 wickets in hand but the lower order combined to make some valuable winning runs.

An impossible match to get a win out of between Western Australia and Southern Australia where runs came so easily. The highlight of the match a massive 187 from former Australia batsman Matthew Elliott just to prove that he?s not past his day.

In the ING Cup South Australia piled on the runs at home and then routed the visiting Queenslanders and picking up the bonus point in the process the first onus point for the season by the way.

The final match of the 3 mobile test series between Australia and Sri Lanka was closer the previous matches and at time the touring Sri Lankan?s looked to be on top but it didn?t last and eventually Australia walked out comfortable winners by 9 wicket with Glenn McGrath picking up man of the match in his comeback to test cricket.

One-Day Tour Game (D/N)
Victorian Bushrangers Vs New Zealand
The MCG, Melbourne
7th December 2006

Welcome back to the MCG today for this tour game between the Victorian Bushrangers and New Zealand. This match is acting as the kiwis warm up for the all important VB Series which has been dominated by the home team in recent years and this year looks to be no exception judging by Australia clean sweep of all 6 test matches they have played this summer. This match however shapes up to be an interesting one and many will believe that the Victorians are in with a chance of winning today judging by the 25,000 or so that have come to watch the game.

Pitch Report With Tony Greig

Yes well im here to bring you all the facts about the cracks and any glitches with the pitches and well conditions are marvelous for play today. The pitch will provide even bounce throughout the day and maybe even play a bit slower then usual here in Melbourne. The outfield is cut to 8mm and will provide an even pace, which will be great for a good contest between bat and ball out in this warm sunny weather we have today. It?s hard to know what a good score will be out here but I would definitely elect to bat first.

The Coin Toss

Stephen Fleming calls tails and loses the toss

Cameron White ? Yeah ah well have a bat first mate. Not a hard choice today the conditions always suit to bat first here in Melbourne and hopefully we can defend those runs here tonight. The boys are really optimistic and we really do believe we can win this match as im sure the Australians will believe that they can win the VB Series. So yeah we?re looking forward to performing today in front of our home crows and in front of the Australian selectors which im sure the boys haven?t forgotten about.

Stephen Fleming ? Im not going to worry too much about bowling when you have guys like Shane Bond and Kyle Mills with the new ball. Obviously we are looking forward to getting back into the colored clothes after going down in the test series. Hopefully we can restrict well and get into a good run of form going into the VB Series when we will have to be on out game and playing the best cricket that we know we can play.

The Teams

Michael Klinger and Jon Moss will kick of the batting followed by the usual batting line-up but the big question is how well will they cope with the blistering pace of Shane Bond? The Victorians will need to post a big total as the kiwi?s strength is within there batting line-up. Let?s go down to the ground now where the players and officials are making there way onto the MCG for today?s day/night match.
