Michael Klinger and Jon Moss weren?t going to retreat into their shell?s for the first 15 overs and took the attack up to the world class bowling of Bond and Mills. The pace of Bond was made to look like that of under 15?s bowling as he went to the boundary on annually. The run rate right on par without to many risks taken after the fielding restriction have finished. This good start for the Victorian?s will now allow them to shift up a gear if they see necessary and take more risks to score quicker or they can keep on going at 5 an over an save there batsman for later stages in the game.

Klinger and Mossy decided to step it up a gear or two in fact as they began to club the helpless kiwis all over the MCG. The boys almost doubled the score in the 10 over period leading up to halfway. It?s great when two blokes get in and all you have to do is sit back in the dressing room with your feet up watching the domination of another team the thing that makes it even better is that we are playing an international team.

Since Kling and Mossy where out in the middle for so long I decided that a little practical joke was in order so I tipped both there lockers which means that all of the contents falls to the front inside the locker so when it is opened everything falls out and you are left with all your gear on the floor to sort through and put back in. When you combine all your sh!t falling out of your locker with the frustration of getting out you are left with a very amusing moment at leased for everyone watching.

The boys have been brought back down to earth in a very short period of time. There was no addition to the score after the 25 over mark with Klinger given out LBW to a ball that was obviously going down leg side and then coming into the dressing rooms to have his gear fall out of his locker which make him pretty dirty to say the leased?.woops. Suddenly it was 2/146 as the old saying one brings two came into play as Mossy edged behind off the bowling of Franklin. Nick Jewell didn?t last long after hitting a boundary to get off the ark and then getting trapped LBW to make it 3/146. The collapse was confirmed when class batsman Dave Hussey edged to Vincent off Franklin who has 3 for in quick time now and bringing the score to 4/158. I?ve one from feet up to kitting up very quickly and making my was out of the dressing room and onto the MCG to try and stop the momentum from swinging in the kiwis favour after the team has lost 4 wickets for just 16 runs.

All of a sudden there are
some worried faces in the Bushrangers camp

The good news to come out of this is that Franklin the man that has turned the tide for the touring nation has bowled out his allotted 10 overs which means the kiwis will have to turn to a different bowler. The bad news is that Daniel Vettori hasn?t bowled a ball yet. The wind has been taken out of the boys who let's not forget beat the touring West Indies last year in a one-day game. Can Slats help repeat the performance?

It?s not time to panic yet but it?s definitely time to get our ass into gear at the MCG with the kiwis on the front foot through the handy work of Franklin. I have come to the wicket between overs with the kiwi skipper Stephen Fleming the master of on field tactics and field settings brining on his off spinning weapon Daniel Vettori.

Seeing as wickets are falling quickly Hodgey was keen to push the ball around and get a partnership going as it is very important to have two confident batsman at the crease when it comes to playing some aggressive shots in the closing overs. A wicket or two more falling now would not only damage our chances of scoring quickly in the last 10 overs but it might mean we don?t even get to the last 10 overs.

The run rate may have suffered slightly but at leased no more wickets have fallen. It will be a tough road back for the Victorians as the New Zealanders have a few world class bowlers with overs left to bowl.

A good performance here could give the selectors something to think about, giving Slats a chance in a tour game perhaps...

Just when it looked like the Victorians were getting back in the match against the touring New Zealanders Brad Hodge was beaten by an absolute beauty that pitched outside off hit the seam and hit the top of middle between bat and pad. The loss of another wicket confirms the fact that the home side are fast running out of batsman capable of getting the job done in terms of a competitive first innings total. Brad Hodge hasn?t been the same man since being dropped from the Australia squad and isn?t dominating the domestic scene like we all know he can. Jacob Oram may just be the new man in the spotlight for the kiwis picking up the wicket with just his 3rd ball of his spell. Thr oad is getting longer and the so are the odds of a Victorian comeback with just one specialist batman at the crease and that man is Slats.

The task was marginally difficult before but now it is extremely difficult as we have lost one of the states best batsman to a cracker of a delivery. I guess that?s the way it goes sometimes and it leaves us in big trouble now at 5 wickets down.

Despite the fall of another wicket I still have a job to do and maybe even a tougher one then before. The Victorian skipper Cameron White is the new man in and I let him know that there is still plenty of time to go in our innings and we can always make up for lost runs in the final few overs with a few ?slog? shots as long as we don?t lose wickets now. The Melbourne crowd has been fully supportive today and has cheered every run I have made so far. I even spotted a political sign in bay 13 address to me!

Whitey may have taken my advice to push for one?s and two?s to seriously as he clipped one down fine as the fielder raced around he called me back for the second which I was hesitant about taking but decided that it wasn?t my call as I couldn?t see the fielder in position to pick up the ball as I ran to the none strikers end. Behind me was the sound of timber being disturbed and a loud appeal for run out as I span around and sore Cameron White on the ground after diving for his crease. The decision went upstairs to the third umpire while Cameron and myself met in the middle of the pitch awaiting the verdict. ?I dunno Slats it was so close. Listen if im out you need to get us to the close of innings otherwise we don?t have a chance. If im in then we?ll keep pushing and hit out later.?

The crowd awaits the 3rd umpires decision. Click below to see the verdict!

I guess none of us knew how close the decision was as the kiwis were in their huddle but none of them seemed sure if Whitey had made his ground in time not even the man who removed the bails Brendon McCullum. History say?s that the 3rd umpire made his decision in favour of the fielding side which means Cameron White is the latest of the Victorians in the shed which means trouble off the charts if you?re a Victorian.
