Victorian Bushrangers Vs New Zealand
The MCG, Melbourne

The spider graph today shows just how much pressure was on the Victorians to spend time at the crease. A solid innings in the end from Slatter to guide the Victorians to some kind of total in front of the home crowd. Can the home side protect their total or will the experienced New Zealanders cruise home and prove that they are ready to take on Australia in the VB Series?
Slats has done a gud job actually... i.e he has done the basics of rotatiting the strikes under pressure perfect!!! He has almost got singles in all the directions... This shows his capabilty of getting runs everywhere...I feel without pressure, he wud have done much more better!!!!

The equation when we go back out after the change of innings break is 249 runs to win at 4.98 runs an over which is very much an achievable total for an international team like New Zealand. An attack Lou Vincent was joined by Nathan Astle for a change as the kiwis got the ball rolling early pushing singles and hitting the boundary in between. Mick Lewis felt most of the attack a he was taken around the ground at will by the kiwis who adapted to his pace and bounce very quickly. At the 15 over mark the team are dead even on score after Vincent has already gone past the half century. At this stage it looks like New Zealand will cruise home as long as they don?t suffer a similar fate to what the Victorians did.
New Zealand 0/88
Run Rate ? 5.86
Projected Total - 293
15 overs
Vincent 55(41)* Astle 30(49)*
Lewis 0/54 (8) Harwood 0/29 (5) White 0/5 (2)
New Zealand require 161 runs to win at 4.60 an over
15 Over Comparison Victorian Bushrangers ? 0/75 New Zealand ? 0/88
Who said Cricket 2005 isn't realistic. Lewis is going at 6.75 an over . If the Kiwis get a partnership going then it will be hard for the Victorians to win this one.

A good start turned into an even better start for New Zealand as Vincent and Astle showed their class after the first 15 overs to bring up a 100 partnership which is just what the kiwis need to do to build up confidence going into the all important VB Series. The first wicket fell at 1/116 with Vincent the victim of Lewis, trapped LBW for 59.
It?s not the first time that the Bushrangers have had their backs to the wall but at the moment it looks doubtful whether they will come back wit the kiwis already getting the required runs down towards double figures. The teams are relatively even on the 25 over comparison but really the New Zealanders are miles ahead as the Victorians collapsed mid innings.
New Zealand 1/144
Run Rate ? 5.76
Projected Total - 288
25 overs
Astle 56(79)* Fleming 26(23)*
Lewis 1/69 (10) Harwood 0/38 (8) White 0/37 (7)
New Zealand require 105 runs to win at 4.20 an over

With the kiwis running away with the game and Cameron White being forced to bowl his front line bowlers for more overs then he would have liked in order to get a breakthrough that hasn?t come he now has turned to me for a spell that with hopefully upset the rhythm of the Black Caps.
Is the fast medium pace of Slatter enough to make an impact on this match like he did with the bat in the first innings? The tourists still have batsman by the names of Styris, Oram and Marshall in the shed so it should be a routine victory for the kiwis to take them into their first match of the VB Series full of confidence.
New Zealand 1/154
Run Rate ? 5.13
Projected Total - 256
30 overs
Astle 58(95)* Fleming 33(37)*

It?s typical that I get brought into the attack when every other option has been tested and we are well behind the 8 ball. I received some final words of advice from Wisey before coming into bowl to Stephen Fleming.
Not only have I been brought on after the Fleming and Astle partnership is well established but I also have to bowl to a right and a left hander which most people will know is very annoying especially if they are good at rotating strike as it means I will have to change my line and length regularly.
If the Bushrangers can just slow up the run rate and keep it there for a few overs they can create chances for themselves and get back in this match. The first call they need to answer though is this partnership, which has been going on far to long for the tastes of the home crowd.
A dropped catch isn?t what they needed now and the thought going through the heads of the Victorians now will be if they are going to get a second bite at the cherry or will the New Zealand skipper lead by example and hit his team to the winning runs in this tour match.
It was the change of bowling that did the trick for Cameron White and us as Jon Moss was brought on for the first time in the match and almost immediately produced the breakthrough with a short of a length ball that skidded through on the New Zealand captain and no matter how many test matches you play for your country your never safe from those kind of deliveries. A misjudgment of shot brought about a hopeful LBW appeal that was upheld by the umpire and even though the decision went our way I?d have to say it was a disgraceful one. The standard of umpiring in the domestic season so far has been well under par and in my opinion needs to be addressed.
