The Ashes 2010: First Test Edgbaston 16th to 20th July 2010
Strauss Leads From The Front!
19th July 2010
From our Chief Cricket Correspondent Rick Adams

England won the toss and put Australia into bat.

Australia First Innings 412 all out (Ponting 134*, Katich 89) Anderson 4/126, Collingwood 2/2 England First Innings 357 all out off 93.1 overs (Collingwood* 124, Bell 70, Broad 37) Johnson 3/54 Australia Second Innings 343 all out (North 109, Hussey 69) Anderson 3/100, Collingwood 2/24 England Second Innings 72 for 1 (Strauss 41*, Trott 28*) Hilfenhaus 1/25 (6.0)

10 Over Update (Overs 10-22)
Match Time: Day Four Second Session 14:07

England steadied themselves after the initial knock of losing Cook first ball. Instead of an innings collapse as we had seen in the first England innings, Strauss and Trott played well together.

Strauss took some time to settle but once he found his rhythm he played well and freely, scoring a number of beautiful cover drives of Hauritz against whom he looked totally at ease.

Strauss looked more suspect against the quickies, particularly Johnson. Ironically Trott played well against the faster pace but spin had him in doubt too often. Ponting will rue not having his slips closer as a bouncing Hauritz delivery fell short of Katitch standing too deep.

England made it to lunch intact. They will have been mightily relieved to be able to come out after lunch knowing that they had already played so much better in the first innings. No time for complacency. As Geoffrey Boycott would say: two wicketts and it suddenly doesn't look that good any more!

Ponting mixed his bowlers up, Johnson came steaming in after lunch. Trott is happy to play the lesser role whilst Strauss starts to play his own free and expansive game. Australia will want to break this crucial partnership that is already worth 72. England will want to see Trott and Strauss a long way into this middle session. Strauss is just 9 short of another 50 and he proves once again how important it is for the whole England team that he does well!

Please apologies for the scoreboards. Due to technical difficulties we are only able to bring rudimentary scores at the moment!

Strauss not out 41 runs 86 minutes 66 balls 5 four 0 sixes 62.12 S/R

Cook c. Watson b. Hilfenhaus 0 runs 4 minutes 1 balls 0 four 0 sixes 0.00 S/R

Trott not out 28 runs 81 minutes 69 balls 1 fours 0 sixes 40.58 S/R

Come on, we need lots of wickets for my prediction to be right.
I think 399 my be a bit beyond England, with Aussie's bowling attack.
Keep up the good work.
Also you should get rid of the "" at the bottom.

does my Strauss preiiioooodiction still applies in this innings.:p

Well this way the test can finish on my time prediction.

get on with it dutchad, batting way too slow :p

Lol! Everytime I go for a shot someone edges it or misses!:facepalm we will get there. Strauss is well set now. As I don't play the game that often and in little stints it takes time to get my eye in again!:p

No he's going at the right pace.:p This is what I was betting on, Trott to play like his usual self.:D You can do it dutchad!:yes

Ha ha! The interesting thing was: he scored his first 10 off 11 balls and the next 14 or whatever off 50 something! This game is too realistic!!!:D

Are you doing all 5 tests? and if you are, have you started a custom test series or are you playing each test in exhibition?

Yes I hope to play all five tests. Don't know how it will turn out in terms of my time availability but we will see. I have set up a custom series in the custom tournaments menu.

I have set myself some basic rules to make it more fun and realistic:

1. I avoid the slog button, except for mad tail-enders. It is way too easy to score with it, especuially with a well set batsman. All ground strokes thus!

2. I give the AI fiieders the benefit of the doubt: I don't scramble a two when in actual fact there is only a one available. The AI do this when they are batting, so do I.

3. I only try to play shots on the ball that is there to be hit. I try to play "real" cricket with this game.

4. I never re-load!

5. I enjoy playing. If I am getting bored, I stop and pick it up again later!

i did a 2 test series with england against Bangladesh and both matches were played at Lords haha
